OneDrive Will Not Run MacOS Catalina 10.15.7

I have had Office 365, including OneDrive running on this Mac for several years. Yesterday, OneDrive updated itself (I have the Microsoft AutoUpdater set to automatically download and install updates) to version 23.061.0319. Following that update, it will not run.

I click on the icon in the launchpad, nothing happens

I click on the icon within Finder->Applications, nothing happens

I do not get an error message, there is nothing in the system log, it does not show up in application monitor, it seems to be just dead.

Here is what the system says about the OneDrive.app:

OneDrive:

  Version: 23.061.0319

  Obtained from: Identified Developer

  Last Modified: 4/3/23, 3:18 PM

Signed by: Developer ID Application: Microsoft Corporation (UBF8T346G9), Developer ID Certification Authority, Apple Root CA

  Location: /Applications/OneDrive.app

  Kind: 64-bit

If I run Microsoft AutoUpdate, this is what it shows for Microsoft products:

None of the Office products is up to date (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook). They are all on version 16.66 because the next version, 16.71 requires an OS Update, which will never come, because this macbook (Macbook Air, mid 2012) is too old and Catalina 10.15.7 is the most upgraded it can get.

Only OneDrive is up to date, v23061.0319, installed yesterday on 4/3/2023.

What can I do to get back to a previous version of OneDrive so that it works??? This sucks that it did not recognize that the most current version is not compatible with my laptop.

Unfortunately it didn't work for me either.
After the procedure all I get is the following error message:
"Impossible to start OneDrive File on request
reboot your computer and try again. Error code: -61"

    [edited with corrections]

here's what i did based on what Charlie47 commented on here (best to read his comments to understand the reason why this works).

    • open Terminal (search spotlight), write/paste sudo nano /etc/hostsand hit return
    • write your password
    • below the last line of text write/paste 0.0.0.0 oneclient.sfx.msand hit return (if u see something at the bottom regarding file name or something simply hit return again)
    • should be done by now so hit Control + O to save and then Control + X to exit
    • restart your computer to flush cache (just in case)
    • go to https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=823060, install the previous version of OneDrive and once that's done it should be working as before

i tried many other suggestions, both from this forum and the one i linked before, and this one was the only one that worked for me (OneDrive has been working as before all afternoon).

    hope this helps!

I was able to follow instructions, and verify my ping is not returned. However, after I install older version, it still auto updates itself the very first time I run it. I verified I am using the installer package for a previous version. The previous version runs for a few seconds, then closes and will not open again. And then I check the app info and it has self updated to the latest version again.

I tried this, today...being I am running out of ideas and thought it worked.

I did the Terminal procedure. Reinstalled v.22.207.1002. Restarted and then reconnected to network.

Within about 6 minutes, I saw the App auto-update "again"...but this time to 23.066.0326, not 23.061.0319 like yesterday.

I was "hopeful" this meant MS did a new patch/update to fix this and have it work for my fleet still using OS 10.15.x.

Sadly, no... Any other ideas? I even have MS Auto-updates turned off, on the machine...so oddly the App "itself" is doing it still... Ugh

    Thanks all.

IMHO, the standalone installer is set to autoupdate and seems to be the only way to install an older version.

The Apple Store versions seems to not autoupdate, as long as you disable the Apple Store auto update preference.

I used Time Machine to overwrite the non functioning newest version with an rather older one and seems to work now.

(It seems to be an App Store installed older one)

Hi all, I’ve tried several ways and the one that worked for me was blocking the updater for outgoing connections using a firewall, Norton 360 in my case.

    Below my procedure:

Finder, Applications, move OneDrive to Trash, delete from Trash

    Disconnect from the internet

Install OneDrive version 23.002.0102.0004 previously downloaded from:

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=861009

In Finder, right click on One Drive, Show package contents

Drag to the firewall the following apps to block the outgoing connections (depending on your firewall the way of blocking may differ):

    OneDrive Updater.app

    OneDrive UpdaterDaemon.xpc

    StandaloneUpdater.app

    StandaloneUpdaterDaemon.xpc

    Reconnect to the internet

Manually start OneDrive or restart the computer

You can block outgoing connections using Terminal instead of a firewall but I'm not so techy.

I've also deleted Office Auto Updater before because is useless since the apps are not able to be updated.

I’ve used yesterday all day and restarted many times and still working.

Next step will be updating my old Mac to Monterrey using Open Core Legacy Patcher.

    Hope this can help someone.

This seems to have also finally worked for me. OneDrive has been running and synching OK for about 24 hours, which included a couple intentional shutdowns and restarts of the MacBook. But, of course, now I don't know how much I can actually trust OneDrive. If the problem reappears, that will be the end of me using the app. There are other options. This has been a horrendous experience for people who use and depend on OneDrive much more than I do.

It's insane that we have had to go through so many contortions to hack our way to the solution of a problem which did not need to happen in the first place and which Microsoft apparently let happen intentionally. If, as another person recently posted, Microsoft will only be supporting OneDrive on Mac OS11 or newer from now on, so be it. We don't have to support you either, Microsoft.
