OneDrive Will Not Run MacOS Catalina 10.15.7

I think I have found a solution using the third party application Cloud Mounter. This app allows mounting in the desktop as a folder or hard drive several cloud services including Onedrive. Configuring Cloud Mounter to mount Onedrive in mac os catalina is very easy with your microsoft account credentials. You may add Cloud Mounter to your startup items.

Hi all, I’ve tried several ways and the one that worked for me was blocking the updater for outgoing connections using a firewall, Norton 360 in my case.

Below my procedure:

Finder, Applications, move OneDrive to Trash, delete from Trash

Disconnect from the internet

Install OneDrive version 23.002.0102.0004 previously downloaded from:

https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=861009

In Finder, right click on One Drive, Show package contents

Drag to the firewall the following apps to block the outgoing connections (depending on your firewall the way of blocking may differ):

OneDrive Updater.app

OneDrive UpdaterDaemon.xpc

StandaloneUpdater.app

StandaloneUpdaterDaemon.xpc

Reconnect to the internet

Manually start OneDrive or restart the computer

You can block outgoing connections using Terminal instead of a firewall but I'm not so techy.

I've also deleted Office Auto Updater before because is useless since the apps are not able to be updated.

I’ve used yesterday all day and restarted many times and still working.

Next step will be updating my old Mac to Monterrey using Open Core Legacy Patcher.

I confirm this is the working solution.

But obviously you need Little Snitch (or some other firewall client).

My OS: macOS Catalina 10.15.7

I tried to remove:

OneDriveUpdater

OneDriveUpdaterDaemon.xpc

standalone updater

StandaloneupdaterDaemon.xpc

But I got same "OneDrive can't start" message.

Then I operated by this way:

Uninstalled Microsoft AutoUpdate (this could be not necessary, but I report it as information) considering not useful Word, Excel, Powerpoint updates on macOS Catalina.

Anyway, consider this will also blocks Teams and the rest of 365 suite apps updates.

1 - Complete uninstall of OneDrive by manually removing all OneDrive files searched by FUNTER app.

2 - Installed the OneDrive previous release 23054.0313.0003

Before to start OneDrive

3 - Turned down all network connections

4 - Started Little Snitch Network Monitor to discover connections attempts by "OneDrive Updater" and "StandaloneUpdater", caught them and added two firewall rules to Deny any outgoing connections on both "OneDrive Updater" and "StandaloneUpdater" processes.

5- then start OneDrive

I have a fairly homemade solution but it worked for me.

1- Uninstall the app, move the application app to the trash.

2- Install version 23.002.0102.0004.

3- Open the activity monitor and filter by the Update process

4- When the app starts, a OneDrive Update process appears, close it forcefully. I think it appears twice, close it.

Then login to the app, it shouldn't close.

The key is to kill the upgrade process that is running in the background and close it. This at least the first time.

To prevent that Update process from running again, I did the following:

Navigate to the Applications folder on your Mac and find the OneDrive application.

Right-click on the OneDrive application and select "Show Package Contents."

From there, go to the Contents

Find the Ondrive Update process, add your user as the owner of the process and set it as "blocked". Also remove system permissions on said executable.

Also in the app settings, disable the application from opening when I log in, so at least until Microsoft resolves the error, I will open the app along with the activity monitor open and make sure that the update process does not run .

And it gets stranger. Now, on my MacBook, OneDrive 23.054.0313.0003 **is** present in Finder windows' sidebar (with the correct shared files), but **NOT** in the menu bar (even though it is a Startup Item in System Preferences), **NOR** is it showing up in Activity Monitor.

Do we know if anybody from Microsoft is looking at these comments?
