your system has run out of application memory

I keep getting an error message whenever I use onenote that says "your system has run out of application memory". It pops up after a couple minutes and has been going on for about a week now. Prior to this it had never happened. this is extremely frustrating because i need to use onenote for medical school. has anybody else had this issue and how do i fix it? i dont know if it has something to do with the new apple update? Plzzzzz help!!

It's hard to give you an exact date because of the staggered way in which we rollout Office Updates, but I can tell you that an improvement had been checked in.. and its a matter of releasing the update that should reach customer before end of year.

    Posting this in reply to a previous comment I posted on this thread.

    I tried a number of options posted online including:

    1. Making sure everything was up to date (One Note & IOS)
    2. Closing opened Notebooks (This proved to be painful as to do this I was trying to cut and paste less-used sections from my one active Notebook into a new Notebook which I could then close. This meant the new Notebook was trying to Sync and boosting up the memory usage in the process, crashing the app and the computer etc.... I eventually succumbed to taking my computer offline and closing the workbook manually, risking losing the sections I was moving across to the new Notebook which hadn't finished syncing... I figured I had backups anyway. I don't think I actually lost much, most of it had managed to Sync to OneNote online).
    3. Clearing Cache from the 'hidden' library files

    But these didn't help.

    Finally, I made sure I had my backups saved outside the application folders, then followed Microsofts steps to completely remove OneNote, reinstalled it, re-signed in, and so far the issue has been resolved.... I've been able to add PDF printouts to new pages and these have sync'd ok. There is a spike in memory usage when syncing up to about 5GB but it seems to come back down quickly... I'd suggest if you're having the same issue, try completely uninstalling OneNote - make sure you've moved your backup files out of the default location to somewhere else where you won't accidentally delete them in the uninstall!

    Hopefully this is a way to reply to everyone? plz everyone let me know one way or the other. what I started doing is if i need to upload a large powerpoint file or something i go online and do it through the URL. So far this has mitigated the problem and I can highlight and write in the document on my iPad and I can usually view it without issues on my macbook. I have stopped trying to upload documents via the desktop application. Let me know if this is helpful or works for you guys!! microsoft sucks they need to fix this because i have way too many notes, charts, etc in onenote to try switching over.

    I'm a vet student and I've been having the same issues with OneNote for about a month now. Has anyone found a solution? This is driving me crazy

    This exact thing is happening to me too! I'm a Med Lab Science student, and can't leave the app open on my MacBook Pro or else it starts struggling. I only have one notebook, I uninstalled/reinstalled, deleted cache files, but nothing's working. This only started happening once I started school in September 2023. All of the previous year, OneNote was doing fine.
