Unable to sign-in to Microsoft Defender on Android devices for child accounts

I purchased a M365 Family subscription so I could use Defender for Individuals on my and my children's devices. The subscription is being shared with both children's MS accounts. I can sign into Defender normally on my PC and Android device, but when I try to sign into the Defender app with their Microsoft accounts on their Android tablets, I get an error: "Invalid license, please contact administrator".

This is happening on two different Android tablets with both their accounts, so I don't think it's a device based issue. Is anyone else seeing a similar issue trying to setup Defender for Individuals on a M365 Family subscription?

    Update 8/8/2023:

It's almost a year now and my MS 365 Family Subscription is about to expire but still this issue is not fixed. I can only confirm that this only works on older versions of android like Android 8.0 and Android 10.0. I tested on these devices while being managed by Google Family Link and they worked as intended. This is broken on Android 11.0 and up. Maybe this is not the right platform to report bugs. I hope someone can point us to the right platform.

    Update 10/25/2022:

I just found out that it does not matter if it's existing or new child MS Account. I just tested all 3 child accounts (mix of new and existing accounts) and all are working on an android device with version Android 8.0. Then tested all accounts on Android 11.0 and 12.0 devices, all of them got invalid license error. I hope this can further help in fixing the problem.

Hi Sumit, this is just an update on my side. Today, I created a new MS Account for my third child, and I can confirm that it is working fine now. But unfortunately, the existing account of my two other children still has this issue. Maybe, fix is working only for new accounts?

Interesting. So maybe it's a mix of newer versions of Android and having a device managed by Google Family Link? In my experience the issue is on Android devices using Family Link, regardless of which MS account you try to login with.

Yes! You're right! My MS account doesn't work either in Android 11 or 12 which are both managed by Family Link. However, in Android 8.0 all MS accounts can login without any issue even if it was managed by Family Link.

Yes, it's same for me, both devices managed by Google family link, give me the invalid license error.

One device freshly upgraded to Android 12, but it's same error after...

I'm having the same issue today. I can log into defender with my account on my Samsung Galaxy S21 with my hotmail account and on my daughter's old Galaxy S7 with her outlook.com account, but I cannot log in to defender on her new Galaxy S22 phone with my hotmail account or her outlook.com account. We are also logged into defender on our Surface laptops (Go2 & Laptop 5) with our same accounts with no issue.
