Unable to sign-in to Microsoft Defender on Android devices for child accounts

I purchased a M365 Family subscription so I could use Defender for Individuals on my and my children's devices. The subscription is being shared with both children's MS accounts. I can sign into Defender normally on my PC and Android device, but when I try to sign into the Defender app with their Microsoft accounts on their Android tablets, I get an error: "Invalid license, please contact administrator".

This is happening on two different Android tablets with both their accounts, so I don't think it's a device based issue. Is anyone else seeing a similar issue trying to setup Defender for Individuals on a M365 Family subscription?

Hi. I'm sorry to hear that. It seems to me that under certain circumstances this error message appears despite the fact, that there is a valid 365-License.

@Microsoft: Please investigate what causes this message (other than a missing license).

It seems that it works on some android devices (as my sons) and on other ones not (e.g. tablets).

As microsoft family safety doesn't work on android tablets either it must have something to do with that, too (certain parts of the coding in microsoft defender react wrongly depending on the used android device).

You should already know the problem as since one of the updates of microsoft defender in September 2022 it works on my son's smartphone without any changes in the settings (before that I had that error message on his device, too).

Please provide the users with a complete list of all known causes of that error message to rule out wrong settings in the device.

And you could try it out yourself with a variety of android devices in connection with microsoft defender and google family link.

As far as I learned it works fine on all android devices without google family link.

    Kind regards,

    Alois
