Text disappearing and reappearing while typing MS word

Hey All,

Running windows 11. ASUS m16.

Today a very weird quirk in word cropped up. As I'm typing, words that I've just typed will have random letters disappear and then reappear. When I delete something, sometimes the thing I just deleted will reappear on the document only to disappear when I'm typing elsewhere. No lag or anything happening, just randomly disappearing characters and reluctantly deleted words. Any idea if this is an issue related to a recent patch?

Cheers,

Nate

Enabling typing suggestions as suggested by MH524 on 23rd Feb 2023 seems to reduce, but not fully fix the issue for me. However, the suggestion popups are VERY distracting! Perhaps the suggestions popup causes a refresh of the image which clears the missing characters.

HOWEVER, I THINK I FOUND A FIX, based on this idea of "refreshing".

I found an article on techpowerup entitled "Graphical glitch in Word and Outlook (Office 365)".

I don't have GeForce Experience installed, but I do have Nvidia control panel, so I did the following things (I'm not sure that all of them are needed), but this is now fixed and working for me:

  1. In Nvidia control panel, I added Word and Outlook as separate programs to my "Manage 3D settings" under the "Program Settings" tab and for both I set the following:
  2. "Low latency mode" = Ultra.
  3. "power management mode = Nvidia recommended
  4. "preferred refresh rate = highest available.
  5. "vertical sync" = on

I restarted Word and Outlook and the disappearing characters are gone!

Having the exact same problem as above. I uninstalled and installed from Microsoft website today and it is still happening. The word is going insane. The settings also disappear when i rollover them.

Having this issue on a Lenovo Legion with i7 12700h and Nvidia 3060. It doesn't happen in any other programs. Most certainly something to do with MS Word compatibility with Nvidia Optimus, or some other similar MUX. Though there are those with integrated graphics too reporting issues. So it could be a general graphic driver compatibility issue with Microsoft Office apps. If that's the case, then it is on Microsoft to fix the issue.

It does appear to be a Microsoft issue. It’s the only constant, the rest are variables. Of note is that the desktop versions of Outlook and Word share some editing components. So, that’s why we see this issue affecting those two programs. I’m going to turn off some editing features in Outlook to see if I can at least stop Outlook from schitzing out.

It is not just disappearing/reappearing text in my case. Go to select print from the menu and sometimes as you get there with the mouse, the word "print" changes to something else. Also getting flashes of other things as mouse moves over other emails in the column. It is becoming hard to use Outlook as it feels like it is happening more now than a couple of weeks ago. Hoping for a fix soon...

Newer PC as well. Dell 8950 i7-12700k with AMD 6700XT.
