Text disappearing and reappearing while typing MS word

Hey All,

Running windows 11. ASUS m16.

Today a very weird quirk in word cropped up. As I'm typing, words that I've just typed will have random letters disappear and then reappear. When I delete something, sometimes the thing I just deleted will reappear on the document only to disappear when I'm typing elsewhere. No lag or anything happening, just randomly disappearing characters and reluctantly deleted words. Any idea if this is an issue related to a recent patch?

Enabling typing suggestions as suggested by MH524 on 23rd Feb 2023 seems to reduce, but not fully fix the issue for me. However, the suggestion popups are VERY distracting! Perhaps the suggestions popup causes a refresh of the image which clears the missing characters.

HOWEVER, I THINK I FOUND A FIX, based on this idea of "refreshing".

I found an article on techpowerup entitled "Graphical glitch in Word and Outlook (Office 365)".

I don't have GeForce Experience installed, but I do have Nvidia control panel, so I did the following things (I'm not sure that all of them are needed), but this is now fixed and working for me:

In Nvidia control panel, I added Word and Outlook as separate programs to my "Manage 3D settings" under the "Program Settings" tab and for both I set the following:
"Low latency mode" = Ultra.
"power management mode = Nvidia recommended
"preferred refresh rate = highest available.
"vertical sync" = on

I restarted Word and Outlook and the disappearing characters are gone!

It's humble pie time! Several days and thousands of words of flawless typing and now I have had two instances of text mayhem that have returned to the roost in less than 300 words. I am clearly out of my league with this problem. Oh well! It still seems to work better at this point but the randomness of the problem has me at the mercy of Microsoft once again.

That's interesting (and unfortunate). Once I tried your method it worked for me while typing a one thousand word document, but then the next day it started happening every few paragraphs. When I turn the text suggestions off it's usually every sentence or more. It really sucks because I write probably around one thousand words per day.

I have an AMD GPU, and it effects people with Intel GPUs as well, so it's Nvida, AMD and Intel, which makes me believe it really isn't something I can fiddle with in my GPU settings.

I am pretty much the same as far as typing goes. My problem is that I am not sure how widespread the problem actually is. I have a second Windows 11/Word 2021 setup that my wife uses that is an All In One PC that went online in November it has dual graphics and I can’t make it break. I haven’t given up yet. After the last submission on this website I have switched off the suggested text feature and removed the WORD app from the custom options for apps settings list. The latest change is the default graphics setting in Windows 11, HARDWARE-ACCELERATED GPU SHEDULING and switched it ON. This setting requires the computer to be restarted. I don’t want to jinx anything but it feels more stable at the moment.
