Text disappearing and reappearing while typing MS word

Hey All,

Running windows 11. ASUS m16.

Today a very weird quirk in word cropped up. As I'm typing, words that I've just typed will have random letters disappear and then reappear. When I delete something, sometimes the thing I just deleted will reappear on the document only to disappear when I'm typing elsewhere. No lag or anything happening, just randomly disappearing characters and reluctantly deleted words. Any idea if this is an issue related to a recent patch?

Cheers,

Nate

Enabling typing suggestions as suggested by MH524 on 23rd Feb 2023 seems to reduce, but not fully fix the issue for me. However, the suggestion popups are VERY distracting! Perhaps the suggestions popup causes a refresh of the image which clears the missing characters.

HOWEVER, I THINK I FOUND A FIX, based on this idea of "refreshing".

I found an article on techpowerup entitled "Graphical glitch in Word and Outlook (Office 365)".

I don't have GeForce Experience installed, but I do have Nvidia control panel, so I did the following things (I'm not sure that all of them are needed), but this is now fixed and working for me:

  1. In Nvidia control panel, I added Word and Outlook as separate programs to my "Manage 3D settings" under the "Program Settings" tab and for both I set the following:
  2. "Low latency mode" = Ultra.
  3. "power management mode = Nvidia recommended
  4. "preferred refresh rate = highest available.
  5. "vertical sync" = on

I restarted Word and Outlook and the disappearing characters are gone!

Finally! Thank you very much Scott.

I found that running OBS in the background fixed it for some reason. Very weird.

But your suggestion cured it completely. Much appreciated.

Edit: Scott's fix worked for a short while, then it was back.

However, I found that every time I try to use OBS to film it via 'screen capture' the problem never appears.

So I have reverted to having OBS running constantly in the background, not recording, just open.

This is NOT a fix which we should be having to use to fix a glitch many people are experiencing.

To be honest, MS are extremely slack for not addressing this.

As a writer, I am on the verge of ditching my pc and going over to a MAC!!

I need to be able to write without the distraction.

    I found a fix.

Close the affected program. Add the affected .exe. file to the "Manage 3D settings" and "Program settings" tab of Nvidia control panel. Then for the affected program, enable "Ultra" low latency mode.

For AMD GPUs enable low latency mode for the affected program in the AMD graphics settings application.
