Text disappearing and reappearing while typing MS word

Hey All,

Running windows 11. ASUS m16.

Today a very weird quirk in word cropped up. As I'm typing, words that I've just typed will have random letters disappear and then reappear. When I delete something, sometimes the thing I just deleted will reappear on the document only to disappear when I'm typing elsewhere. No lag or anything happening, just randomly disappearing characters and reluctantly deleted words. Any idea if this is an issue related to a recent patch?

Cheers,

Nate

Enabling typing suggestions as suggested by MH524 on 23rd Feb 2023 seems to reduce, but not fully fix the issue for me. However, the suggestion popups are VERY distracting! Perhaps the suggestions popup causes a refresh of the image which clears the missing characters.

HOWEVER, I THINK I FOUND A FIX, based on this idea of "refreshing".

I found an article on techpowerup entitled "Graphical glitch in Word and Outlook (Office 365)".

I don't have GeForce Experience installed, but I do have Nvidia control panel, so I did the following things (I'm not sure that all of them are needed), but this is now fixed and working for me:

  1. In Nvidia control panel, I added Word and Outlook as separate programs to my "Manage 3D settings" under the "Program Settings" tab and for both I set the following:
  2. "Low latency mode" = Ultra.
  3. "power management mode = Nvidia recommended
  4. "preferred refresh rate = highest available.
  5. "vertical sync" = on

I restarted Word and Outlook and the disappearing characters are gone!

I am not convinced it is a Microsoft issue.

It seems to align more with the 3rd party GPU issues. I, at one point, opened a ticket with Microsoft 365 support on the matter. We ended up fixing the issue by replacing the Video Card. We opted to close that ticket with Microsoft as the issue was resolved for our user, and we didn't need to investigate further.

Has MS actually acknowledged this issue by now?

I have made a feedback here https://aka.ms/AAkdvt0 . It is best for anyone who has this to upvote it or make another feedback via the Feedback app.

I've had the same issue for some time now. Win 10 Pro, NVidia 2070, Office 365 subscription. Happens in Word AND Excel

So annoying... supposedly the subscription keeps you 'updated' so you have the 'best always'.

    pfft

So, more details... typing in Word OR Excel and letters will disappear and reappear the instant I space and move on. In DOCS, in cells in Excel. Sometimes they appear elsewhere for a split second as well. I have tried a number of fixes I have found online. While I am typing here, in WordPad, or elsewhere it doesn't happen.

Further update: Excel is getting very wonky. As I type in a cell, it becomes dark/black or sometimes gray. Odd characters appear for a split second. I am getting ready to start saving my 100 bucks a year and to with something else

I had to install 23.4.1 to test what I had found on the AMD forum about anti-lag and turning off anti- lag didn't work for me either. I too have been using 22.5.1 because of this issue as well. If it worked for some then lucky them. Costs nothing to try.

In Adrenalin if you set the graphics profile to Gaming or eSports instead of Standard or Power Saving then anti-lag is turned on by default. I use Gaming.

I haven't noticed this issue with anything other than MS Office but I had reverted back to 22.5.1 so who knows.

When I installed 23.4.1 I got a message that there was a new version 23.4.2 and tried that as well, still not fixed.
