Text disappearing and reappearing while typing MS word

Hey All,

Running windows 11. ASUS m16.

Today a very weird quirk in word cropped up. As I'm typing, words that I've just typed will have random letters disappear and then reappear. When I delete something, sometimes the thing I just deleted will reappear on the document only to disappear when I'm typing elsewhere. No lag or anything happening, just randomly disappearing characters and reluctantly deleted words. Any idea if this is an issue related to a recent patch?

Cheers,

Nate

Enabling typing suggestions as suggested by MH524 on 23rd Feb 2023 seems to reduce, but not fully fix the issue for me. However, the suggestion popups are VERY distracting! Perhaps the suggestions popup causes a refresh of the image which clears the missing characters.

HOWEVER, I THINK I FOUND A FIX, based on this idea of "refreshing".

I found an article on techpowerup entitled "Graphical glitch in Word and Outlook (Office 365)".

I don't have GeForce Experience installed, but I do have Nvidia control panel, so I did the following things (I'm not sure that all of them are needed), but this is now fixed and working for me:

  1. In Nvidia control panel, I added Word and Outlook as separate programs to my "Manage 3D settings" under the "Program Settings" tab and for both I set the following:
  2. "Low latency mode" = Ultra.
  3. "power management mode = Nvidia recommended
  4. "preferred refresh rate = highest available.
  5. "vertical sync" = on

I restarted Word and Outlook and the disappearing characters are gone!

3 days ago I updated my video card to rx 7900 xtx. It took 2 full days and lots of frustration to get it to work but so far so good.

Posting this here because stupidly not paying attention, I tried installing 22.5.1 and got an error that the card is not supported. Doh!

So installed latest 23.4.3 and no issues with Office with the new video card. Typed a whole page in a word document without issue. Checked mousing over the settings menus and ribbon bar and no issues. Mousing over the list of emails in outlook the highlighting worked correctly.

Don’t know if the 7000 series cards were having these issues before 23.4.3 and am still testing out this new card. With the installation issues I had, don’t want to mess around too much at this point to check.

So maybe try 23.4.3 and see what happens? Previous card was rx 6900 xt.

You can download and install any driver you want, and keep it for as long as you want. Just disable the setting in your driver that checks for updates.

Unfortunately rolling back was only available for a shot period of time, and I was forced to the upgrade eventually.
