Same issue in our office. All users with O365. It started over this past weekend (07/09/2022). Only Excel files when doing a Save As, Browse. Some users experience it with File Open.
All other applications work without issue. Nothing in event viewer shows any problems.

The fix worked for me, however, the next day, Office did an update and actually took me back to the most stable Office release which was 2208. So I went back and did the click to run fix again and applied the 2209 patch and turned off updates. It has been smooth sailing since with no issues. I have only tested on three PC's at this point, but I am slowly rolling it out to more machines.
I just updated to the Current Channel (Preview), Version 2209, Build 15629.20070 and am still getting the Trying to Connect issue when saving files to a network share.
I don't know if they fixed it and then broke it again or if I have to restart my computer to actually get the changes full applied.
There has been some progress on this issue, the fix is now in the Current Channel Preview release. I expect this fix will get rolled out to the Current Channel on October 11th and the Monthly Enterprise Channel on November 8th. It looks like the issue will be in the next release of the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel unless things change...

Thanks for that link. I wasn't aware that behavior could be modified.
Aside from that, stealth mode is an important security feature and I would not turn that off just to work-around a (temporary) bug in Outlook/Excel. Turning that feature off allows for easy reconnaissance of your Windows-based infrastructure.
Adding an outbound rule on the clients does not increase my exposure so I'm sticking to that until this issue is solved.
