If it is a document I don't want others to change I lock it read only. Are you saying you have a way around this?

Since the reviewing, editing, and viewing feature I cannot copy and paste from a read only document. I have to gain access to even copy and paste. My job requires me to copy and paste from upwards of 10 documents. Since word won't let me copy and paste from a read-only or viewing document I have to check them out of our SVN every time. Does anyone know how to turn this feature off and go back to the original word?

I agree!
But using the Preview channel our code can now manipulate a document which has been opened Read-Only (by the code). This is despite the fact that if we leave it open on the screen the Viewing button activates (with the message), and the document cannot be updated. We however, never leave the document open - we close it without saving. So it's fixed for us.
Now we have to wait to see if the Current Channel update, probably next Tuesday, fixes it as well.
It's not like we would know based on the release notes...a little more detail would be useful Microsoft. Is this our lump of coal from Santa this year?

Version 2212: December 26
Version 2212 (Build 15928.20198)
Good news is they might have fixed this in the Current Preview Channel (last updated on the 26th December)
We did roll-back some of the clients to the semi-annual channel. That workaround appears to fix the issue for now. A Google search indicates the semi-annual channel is updated the second week of January and July. Hopefully MS either fixes the issue or holds the semi-annual channel January update.
