How to turn off the reviewing, editing, and view feature?

Since the reviewing, editing, and viewing feature I cannot copy and paste from a read only document. I have to gain access to even copy and paste. My job requires me to copy and paste from upwards of 10 documents. Since word won't let me copy and paste from a read-only or viewing document I have to check them out of our SVN every time. Does anyone know how to turn this feature off and go back to the original word?

    For what it's worth I have had a case open with Microsoft for weeks on this and they got back to me today with this repsonse.

    I wanted you to know that

    • we discussed this issue with our Technical advisers our  senior experts
    • But there is no workaround for this. It is by design Behavior.

    The same information has been passed to me from the higher level team

    Updating to the most up-to-date version in current channel (Version 2301 Build 16.0.16026.20196) and closing and reopening word twice (This thread mentions that that works sometimes) has not resolved this issue.

    Bob, can you confirm the viewing button is still gone for your version of Word?

    I still do not have this issue when I lock my document in "filling in forms" but that has been how forms functioned for me for several years now.

    My understanding based on our environment is yes this allows only typing into the fillable form fields but if a user clicks Save it overwrites the original document with those fillable form field values. We therefore have to mark the document as Read-only which would fire a save as, instead now this new "feature" prevents typing all together including the fillable form fields.
