Excel Stocks not working in Office 365 after installing macOS Ventura v13.0

**Parameters:**Hardware: Mac mini 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i3
Software: Office 365 (v16.66.1)
OS: macOS Ventura (v13.0)
Connected Experiences: All On
Auto Update: Have always been On for both Office 365 and macOS

Additional: Nothing new has been installed on the system for over a year (other than SW updates)

TimeLine:

Two days ago: Microsoft Auto Update hung for hours

- Reinstalled MS Auto Update and was able to update MS apps
- Excel Stocks working fine yesterday

This morning: Received error message: "COULDN'T REFRESH DATA TYPES We need to fix your account. Select Microsoft Excel from the top menu > Sign Out. Then sign back in with the account associated with a subscription."

Steps Taken:
Signed out of Office 365; signed back in. No change, and "Stocks" is missing.
Hard Reboot: No change, and "Stocks" is missing.
Scoured the forums online...pretty much tried everything that I could find...

Removed Office 365 Apps, reinstalled, rebooted, etc., signed in again, verified Connected Experiences all are on, and "Stocks" shows up as a menu item: however, when clicking on it, the same error message appears ('COULDN'T REFRESH DATA...").
Removed Office 365 another two times, reinstalled, rebooted, verified Connected Experiences, etc. etc. and no change.
Nothing has changed with my Office 365 subscription (still active, valid, no additional users, etc.).

Thoughts/Questions:

Is this a problem with the latest version of Office 365 (v16.66.1)?

- If so, is there a way to roll back to an earlier version that we know works (I have researched and not been able to find out how to do this.

Is this a problem with the latest version of macOS (Ventura v13.0)?

- If so, is there a way to roll back to a previous version of macOS?

If this isn't the right forum to solve this issue, can someone point me to where I can get assistance; I'm happy to pay a fee, as I'm over four hours of spinning my wheels with everything I've tried.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

I just received this from Microsoft:

Thank you for sending Microsoft feedback. Your input is valuable to us and helps improve our products.

Your feedback directly resulted in improvements to Office and we believe your issue has been addressed in the latest version of Office 365. Thank you! To get the latest update, follow the steps here.

For your reference, you submitted the following feedback on November 3, 2022:  MacOS Ventura 13.0 users have to downgrade to Version 16.65 because all newer versions up to beta 16.68 do not support stock quotes anymore! Figured out the Problem...now just have to find a solution:
Problem: There's some sort of incompatibility with Ace Ventura and Excel Stocks. How I know this...I'm running Excel Stocks (v16.66.1--same as above) and macOS Monterey (v12.6) on a MacBook Pro 2017, and Excel Stocks works fine. Looks like I will now have to wait for either MS or Apple to fix it, as moving back to the Monterey OS is, well...not very easy. It apparently makes the hour-long process to install Ventura seem like child's play. Shaking my head.

Suggestion to Others: Don't upgrade to macOS Ventura (v13.0) if you want Excel Stocks to work, and turn off your friendly auto-update feature.

Update Apple: Only solution after communicating with Apple would be to roll back to Monterey OS...there's a risk of losing data and the process isn't straightforward.

Update Microsoft: The issue is starting to become known (as expected as people upgrade). It has been forwarded to the technical/engineering team. We will need to wait for either a work-around or an update to v16.66.1.

    EUREKA! Version 16.64 works

After reading several threads, I have found a solution.

The issue starts with version 16.65 of EXCEL included.

I tested 16.65 as recommended by some: did not work

I have installed the 16.64 version: it works.

    What I did:

    • Removed automatic updates in Microsoft 365
    • In the Apps folder: removed the Excel App to the bin.
    • Uploaded the Excel 16.64 version .dng file (no need to reload other apps, eg Word)
    • Install the .dng file (from the french historical versions database; but should work fro the english one).
    • Opened Excel : verified : it is the 16.64 version.
    • Connected to my Microsoft365 account (It is required to benefit from data uploading).

    How I Tested

    • I created a simple spreadsheet and tested financial data uploading: WORKED.
    • I tested a former large "non-working" spreadsheet containing STOCKHISTORY functions: WORKED.

But I am now in a situation of not updating Microsoft 365 automatically.

    Hope this will help.

Thanks to all who helped on the way.

Why make it simple when you can make it complicated?

    Hello NA0111

I'm having the exact same problem as you. Since Friday, 10/21, the Data Type has stopped working and my spreadsheet no longer updates. The message is the same as you quoted. I've talked to the Microsoft people about three times and we've done everything: we uninstalled Office, installed it, deleted plist, ran first aid, created a new user for both Microsoft and Apple (they said my Apple account was corrupted), installed a previous version of Excel 16.64, I deleted it through Terminal, and nothing. I gave up trying more things. Good to know it happened to more people, unfortunately lol. A sign that there will have to be some correction. The strange thing is that for OneDrive, online, the Data Type works. I also don't think returning to Monterey would be the solution. But that's it, let's wait for a fix!
