Hello All,

you might know that " Microsoft has blocked Macros from running through internet" do we have any permanent solution on this?

I have tried the below solution which doesn't work.

  1. Save the file to a local hard drive, network share, or cloud share like OneDrive.
  2. Open Windows File Explorer and go to the folder where you saved the file.
  3. Right-click the file and choose Properties from the context menu.
  4. At the bottom of the General tab, you should see a section for Security. Select the Unblock checkbox and select OK.

Also, tried to enable Macros through Macros settings through Trust center but didn't work?

is there any permanent solution on this?

Thanks,

AMit

Hi,

I think I found a solution to my problem.

The solution is to re-map the network drive to the fileserver name first and then adding that mapped directory to the trusted locations in excel.

Mapped Location:

\fileserver\networkdirectory and not \[192.xxx.xxx.xxx]\networkdirectory

Hope it helps someone out there.

Regards,

Ryno

I had the exact same problem which was being experienced by some of my clients with them even threatening to sue our it support services for lose of business due to this issue. Microsoft support were totally useless on all fronts just referring me to a number of support articles which i obviously tried countless time before even getting in touch with them and lets just say that i personally found their support disappointing and pathetic, but in regards to your problem. I found a solution that did work after some playing around on my side.

    thre

What worked for me was to go through control panel, then go to internet options and then select "change security settings". From there select the security tab add the source location of the files to either Local intranet or teh Trusted sites location. ( I then also reduced the security level of these sources to the lowest possible settings (not sure if this was necessary or recommended but i was just experimenting). The files have since been able to work without the blocked macros restrictions.

I am still playing around with this but since doing this my clients are able to work normally again which is what is important. I will be pushing this setup through group policy on our various clients servers to prevent any further problems from occurring in the future and will try update on how this goes. But for now, this is the only solution that worked.

If anyone else can try this and update, please do share.

Microsoft, i don't need to hear from you. You were of absolutely no help in anyway so i'd rather take suggestions from the people that actually help....your affected customers ( the ones you don't care about)

Microsoft: STOP trying to save me from myself. You don't know what exactly what your users are doing, what works for them, what security is or is not appropriate in a given environment.

You come up with hurdles to jump through to use VBA macros on spreadsheets I wrote and are on our internal network and you think you have to save me from myself. Suddenly you broke things and want me to fix it. I try to allow it to work in Trust Center settings and its response is I can't "for security reasons."

Simply create/sign a certificate for me to run my own code? Seriously? I appreciate the extra caution you're warning us all about *but let me decide* if it's necessary or not.

    Hi All,

    Greetings!

While searching, I noticed some customers mentioned changing the Internet Option in Control Panel helped them resolve the scenario. The same suggestion is provided by Taku Mushonga in the above post.

Please check the link below where Lyndal JT has described the steps:

Source: Security Risk - Microsoft has blocked macros from running because the - Microsoft Community

Also, please check the support article below and ensure that admin settings are not applied to prevents users from inadvertently opening files containing macros from the internet.

Macros from the internet are blocked by default in Office - Deploy Office | Microsoft Docs

    Important

Organizations can use theBlock macros from running in Office files from the Internetpolicy to prevent users from inadvertently opening files from the internet that contain macros. We recommend enabling this policy as part of thesecurity baselinefor Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise. If you do enable the policy, your organization won’t be affected by this default change.

For more information, seeUse policies to manage how Office handles macros.

Please let us know if this makes any difference.

    Kind regards,

    Neha
