Why does my PowerPoint freeze on my PC after I use "Search" to insert a picture?

I have a JPEG image inserted into a PowerPoint file and want to change it to a different JPEG. I'm selecting "Change Picture" and then "From a File" in PowerPoint.

From here, I type in the SEARCH a keyword to find the JPEG in my files for the new image (for instance, "cat"). I then choose an image, CLICK it to insert, and then PowerPoint immediately freezes upon insertion. I have to use the Task Manager every time to END TASK for PowerPoint.

When I use the regular "insert picture" feature WITHOUT searching my files first, there are NO PROBLEMS. The issue persists only when I have to search my files.

Here's what I've tried: updated drivers on Dell and Inspiron websites, updated PowerPoint, updated WIndows, restarted my computer countless times, online repair and troubleshooter for indexing, and re-indexed my files using the Rebuild option.

I'm not getting any error messages, just a frozen PowerPoint. I'm working on an Inspiron 14 5410.

    Hi Asher,

The issue still persists after following your directions step-by-step.

In fact, the problem is worse because now none of my files are appearing after I search a keyword.
