Word templates not opening as new documents

The thread was closed after this last post. Registry edits were suggested. That sounds quite easy compared to dealing with the ongoing file save problem.

Would you please tell me how to manually correct the file associations in the registry?

    You are right, the icons do not look correct and they are NOT being recognised as being of the Type Microsoft Word Macro-Enabled Template.

    What do you see if you right click on the Ortho tests item, which does have a icon of the correct type.

    If you do open\edit a file such as the IR-Shoulder and then use File>SaveAs and select Word Macro-Enabled Templates (*.dotm) from the Save As type: dropdown (probably using a new filename) does the resulting file then have the correct icon?

    If not, try copying everything except for the final paragraph mark (¶) in the document and paste it into a new document that you then save as a Word Macro-Enabled Template and see if it has the correct icon.

    Quick answer... Ortho tests is just a .docm I use to store content. All .docm docs created from templates also show the correct icons. Will try the other tests shortly.

    I note that the file that you had uploaded to Dropbox is IR-Shoulder.dotm with the extension in lowercase, which is treated on my system as a proper template with the correct icon. Can you upload the IR-Shoulder.DOTM file that appears in the File Explorer screen shot so that I can see how that behaves.

    I don't have any with an all-cap extension. All-cap appears under the TYPE column of windows explorer.

    What do you see for the .dotm file type under Windows>Settings>Apps>Default Apps>Choose default apps by file type
