How to disable Files On-Demand in OneDrive MacOS? It's enforced since the last update ...

yes, our business went from Google Business to Microsoft 365 a couple of years ago. It's been fine (if often confusing) for that time, but this has broken our whole workflow. What amazes me is that our set-up is common for a lot of small to mid businesses -- no intranet, only MS365, all work folders on OneDrive. And they have broken that! They clearly don't see OneDrive as part of their business suite.

I'm now looking at alternatives.

Absolutely, completely unacceptable.

I'm reviewing options now.

Don't trust Google, and not familiar with iCloud, but seriously doubt either could be worse than this ... words escape me..

We've been using OneDrive since it was SkyDrive. It hasn't always been smooth, but overall it's been OK.

But this?!?

And, of course, our Microsoft 365 yearly subscription renewed the day before this hairball was unleashed on unsuspecting and unwarned users.

I've cancelled automatic renewal, and if I could get my money back I would.

I'm new to the Mac world and still feeling my way around, but the way things are going now I suspect that by this time next year we will have

• cancelled Microsoft 365
• bought a MacBook Pro for my wife.

Who has time for this level of frustration in their lives?

I was wondering what was happening why my files were taking so long to load and why my internet package had gone over this month and was charging me overage fees.

I will move my cloud server if this is not changed back. I cannot pay for internet overage fees for DOWNLOADING each of my files each time I need to open them. And it is useless and not worth my time for me to have to hit a button on my thousands of files to "keep on device"

I would rather move everything to a cloud service that doesn't do things without my consent.

I was able to download all my files, but behavior was still unreliable. When I loaded a file to Word from finder, I made a small modification and turned on autosave. It didn’t work (autosave seemed to get hung up and never finish saving), and the file in OneDrive folder both on my Mac and in the online OneDrive account disappeared! I had to restore it from a backup disk!

I have moved everything to iCloud Drive.

I concur with everyone's anger and, frankly, shock in this thread. I spent multiple hours this week trying to recover more than 100k work files--files I rely on for my job and use every single day--that had been deleted. This unannounced and poorly executed decision also removed all tags I had curated for the database that organized these files. They are forever gone, not just suspended in the cloud like the files themselves.

I'm still in a kind of disbelief that a company this large and this "professional" could be so unbelievably short-sighted. No exaggeration, this is a disaster. I simply cannot think of a bigger and more profound failure in my 40+ years as a prolific computer user.

It gives me no pleasure to say this but people should lose their jobs. This is how bad this is.
