Microsoft Access is not allowing me to compact and repair the database. It keeps saying file is open. I made new database and imported files even then same issue and it says it is opening in sharing mode. I haven't shared with anybody. How to shut off this sharing mode. Mine is a single computer for home and is not part of any network. Please guide. Thank you. Ripal

    I tried doing that yesterday, but I couldn't get it to work. I'm sure I messed up somewhere along the way, so I'll try again later on today.

    Looking at the updates, the last was in January, I believe, and I'm pretty confident that I didn't have any issues compacting & repairing prior to 2/17/22. Now, it is possible that I didn't use that function for a couple of weeks, but I usually, by habit, hit the compact and repair tool periodically through out most weeks.

    Following. Adding to the conversation in hopes that it gets elevated. I did have some 64-bit error, but I removed the Declare functions causing the issues. I don't think it is related to 64-bit issues.

    I cannot compact and repair. This on top of the previous week's issue of the lock files getting stuck is causing a lot of stress and work backlog.

    Just an update from my end. As I mentioned the same database used with the same bit installation with same version is working in new machine where I put in a new disc and started with a fresh installation of Windows. The other older machine still has the same compact and repair problem even though everything is absolutely same about the Access installation. My reports which I felt had got corrupted because of this continual testing were not corrupted. There was some other problem which I sorted after some RND. So, as of now I have a properly functioning database in one machine. Microsoft needs to address this as soon as possible as it's been a source of stress and a waste of man-hours dealing with this.

    Could you answer the following:

    1. If a lockfile is not deleted, or a database is reported locked, can you check to see if an instance of Access is still running using task manager?
    2. If a lockfile is not deleted, can you check the size (is it 0-bytes, or larger?)
    3. Do you have any accessibility tools (like Narrator) or other tools that run in the background (like Grammarly) running?  Does turning those off impact the behavior?
    4. Your Build
    5. What bitness are you running (32 or 64-bit) of Office/Access?
    6. What is your OS
    7. Have you tried performing an Office Repair?
