Microsoft Access is not allowing me to compact and repair. Keeps saying its open etc

Right, so whoever is following this thread and I hope that Microsoft certainly is, I think I have figured out with which systems this problem is occurring. I did a fresh install in another computer. This time I chose default office installation instead of 64 bit Office installation. And Voila - the same file works perfectly. Only thing is in all this hassle, my reports got corrupted and could not document those when using the documenter afterwards. So have deleted them. However with or without the reports the compact and repair worked perfectly. Someone had suggested, or I had read somewhere that one must compact the database while keeping the file closed so that's what I did. It was not different from what I was doing earlier in the other machine. So this is a big shoutout to Grover Park George who actually thought of this possibility and mentioned it in his reply. Thanks so much. For the time being till Microsoft fixes this for 64 bit systems, - all those having this problem just uninstall your office 365 and when doing a fresh install, use the default installation. DO NOT use the 64 bit installation. Since I did both in different machines I am confident that it is the 64 bit version that is causing the problem. Just install the default version and your problem will be sorted. Thanks to all who helped. And please keep this thread alive with your inputs and updates as this is a way to circumvent the problem. Microsoft still needs to come up with a fix. Thanks guys. Stay safe.

I am already running the 32-bit version of Access and still can't compact & repair.

All right, I spoke too soon. And here is where it is going to get weird. I went back to the older machine and uninstalled office and reinstalled it using the default option. Here it is not working. I checked the version - 64 bit. I went to the other machine where it was working and checked there - 64 bit same version. Everything absolutely the same. And for some reason it works on one machine and doesn't on the other. Am wondering whether formatting my hard-drive and starting afresh with everything will solve the problem. Am flummoxed with this problem. I even tried signing out of the machine and logging in with a local account and see if I could find some residual files. No such luck. So all I know is the problem still exists. Starting with a formatted hard disk and a fresh installation of Windows and the rest might or might not work. Since you say 32 bit is also giving problem then it is not the issue of 32 bit or 64 bit. There is something else that is clashing.

Is there no one at Microsoft to reach out to that could help, with their program? Do they monitor these feeds?

Thèse forums are manned by volunteer users like yourself trying to help one another. Sometimes, you may see a Microsoft employee pop in, but there is no guarantee of that happening.

If you want help directly from Microsoft, you need to contact their support, but you have to give you credit card information just to reach someone.

Another option is to use the feedback command with Access directly, but this is a one way communication, they don't respond back.

Lastly, the issue was reported last week and I notified the Dev Team again this morning about the issue.

Have you tried rolling back your Office Build No to a build prior to this whole mess?
