Microsoft Access is not allowing me to compact and repair the database. It keeps saying file is open. I made new database and imported files even then same issue and it says it is opening in sharing mode. I haven't shared with anybody. How to shut off this sharing mode. Mine is a single computer for home and is not part of any network. Please guide. Thank you. Ripal

Ok. Thanks for pointing this out. Both my Dell machines have McAfee. My Lenovo has Norton. So does this have to do with McAfee? I will uninstall McAfee from the older machine and check. Let's see what I find.

Are you using McAfee antivirus?
Yes. It is there in my Dell Machines. Not in my Lenovo. I will uninstall it tomorrow and get back to you with what I discover.

Since I don't keep my secondary computer running all of the time, I'm thinking that app hasn't updated yet, which could be the reason why I am able to compact & repair Access on that computer.
I just uninstalled McAfee on my main computer and I now am able to compact and repair!
