Microsoft Access is not allowing me to compact and repair the database. It keeps saying file is open. I made new database and imported files even then same issue and it says it is opening in sharing mode. I haven't shared with anybody. How to shut off this sharing mode. Mine is a single computer for home and is not part of any network. Please guide. Thank you. Ripal

    I have been having similar issues in that I cannot compact and repair any access database on a local drive. I've tried reinstalling office 365 which has made no difference, I have not tried reverting to an earlier version of office 365. I tried creating a new database and imported everything, but the problem persists.

    This is happening on two Dell Windows 11 computers, Office 365 and windows are fully up to date.

    Interestingly I use a synology disk station for the back ends and if I copy the front end database from the local drive to the synology drive, compact and repair works perfectly. This will help for now, but its a real nuisance!

    By resetting, do you mean you went back to older builds? Or, did you copy your database to a new one, delete all the data and then slowly copy and paste the data back in?

    I did this. It was still weird - worked on one system and did not on the other 2. I believe it is to do with speed and temporary memory. I reset my Dell. Now it is working on that machine also. In the older Dell which I am not going to bother with resetting the problems still persist. Resetting my PC was not a solution I was looking for. Even so, it has solved the problem.

    Going with my memory issue theory, - I am attaching a screenshot. Can changing any of those parameters help? Please guide

    I am now confident to state that this is a problem of speed of clearing the temporary memory. Here is what I am doing currently: I created a new database. One by one I import tables and other objects - only 2 at a time. After every import I wait for a few seconds. Then I go to info option and do a compact and repair. It works. If I increase the number of objects being imported or try to hurry things it doesnt work. Please guys who all are having this problem try what I have said and see if it is solving your problem at least for the time being.
