Cursor jumps to the end of the document when deleting a line in Word and have Track Changes enabled (Word for Windows)

Also a professional editor here, often working with huge documents. I have Word 365 on my Win10 desktop (wired mouse, wired keyboard) and on my Win10 laptop. Various keystrokes (usually CTRL-arrows) on both machines have been triggering random jumps throughout the document and it is driving me INSAAANE! It happens several times an hour and it's seriously affecting my work. And I'm actually paying for this software! >:-(

Having the same issue and it does not disappear when I switch off the track-change option :( really irritating

Like ChrisNewton8, I'm finding this problem reduced somewhat in the last few months. When it reappears, I get relief from toggling between Simple and Full Markup, and it's usually half an hour or so before I get kicked to the end again. I've also managed some relief by importing my own Normal and Edit Note formats to less-professional manuscripts. However we work around this, it is still an unacceptable time-loss for professional editors to have to deal with, Microsoft!

None of the recommended fixes work. This is an issue that Microsoft has to fix at the root. It’s gotten worse since the last update, which includes other asinine and useless new features like the throbbing blue line under every autocorrect. It is seriously affecting our livelihood, when we’re spending (at a conservative estimate) five or six extra hours per document chasing our own tails back to where we were working. Quit making fancy “upgrades” and take us back to the version that worked.

I agree and share your frustration. MS Word has never been completely glitch free, but we've all figured out and shared tricks to get around certain issues. That said, I can't recall a glitch that so seriously jeopardized the quality and professionalism of a finished document like this one does. Surely MS's own technical documentation teams and their many vendors and partners are suffering through this same glitch.

It was working fine. Who is pushing for these "improvements" that degrade the software and user experience. There is no real benefit to most of what they are rolling out. All they are introducing is frustration.

And I appreciate the desire for others to want to help, but the help offered isn't helpful. "Set Track Changes to Simple Markup/All Markup/turn off Track Changes," etc.

It's a horrible bug in one of the application's core functions. If editors/proofreaders/authors/tech documentation staff cannot trust MS Word to be reliable, it's virtually useless. Every keystroke is essential. If an editor introduces errors in any doc, they've essentially taken a step toward unemployment. It's inexcusable that MS introduced this bug in the first place, and it's even harder to understand why they are incapable of fixing it.

Ahh, I see you've discovered that "Simple Markup" doesn't solve the problem. I'm an editor too, Martin, and when I'm working in "Tracked Changes" I work in Simple Markup all the time. That's when I came across this issue. I can prevent it (or stop it from happening again) by toggling to "All Markup" to make that change. Word performs as usual in "Simple Markup" for another wee while after that.

Having been paying more attention to the issue lately, it definitely happens when in the last or almost last line of a paragraph and you can anticipate it happening when you discover you can't click in the final line of the paragraph (as if that line isn't there). When I find that happening now, I switch to "All Markup", make all the edits I need to make in that paragraph, and switch back to "Simple Markup" to continue editing the document.
