External Data Refresh Failed

Hi all,

I too was getting very frustrated about this message without any obvious stock data not being refreshed.

I see there's still no good fix from Microsoft, and like another user I don't feel like rebuilding my stocks spreadsheet.

So as a workaround, I created macro buttons to refresh and sort my sheets etc, with the error message exited automatically through the macro. Obviously not ideal but it was a workaround I'm happy with at the moment.

Let me share my experience with this exact same problem.

It started to occur last week for me (I have been using the Stocks feature for months now) in the file that we can call file A.

I first try to run Quick repair, repair Online and install again Office 365. No improvements.

Then I tried to see (which I should have started with) if the message would still show up in another file B containing the same stocks as in the original.

It did not.

I finally came up to notice that 2 specific stocks price were not updating (change% would still be 0 %) after each refresh in file A.

Then I noticed that one these stocks had a slight different spelling in file B compared to A and the other stock name had a different stock market reference (comes in parenthesis after the stock name in the same cell), this later one may actually come from my wrong doing(?).

So I copy/pasted names from file B to A and then the Refresh worked fine again, no Warning message anymore.

So I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I hope my experience can help others (and among them Microsoft teams so that they can come up with a patch or something).

Thanks for this feedback. I just double checked all my tickers (again) and I found one which no longer seems to exist (WIlliam Hill Bookmakers). I deleted the row and all's good now. Cheers

I am having the same issue, as well. Same error message, etc. It appears to update all stock prices., anyway, but if it is missing one or two, it's hard to tell which ones. Or if they are the same ones each time.

Sorry you are having this problem too. As you can see from the thread length and limited responses from Microsoft, they really don't care and seem to have little or no interest in fixing it. The customer service group responsible for this are a bunch of do nothing, don't care clowns. Hope you find an fix and can share it with us.
