I've lost the ability to edit Word documents in Teams.  Is there anything I can do to fix that?

Hi All

Thanks for all the feedback here.

We would like to inform that this change is just a temporary adjustment due to the COVIN-19.

You can get more information or keep track of this change in the message center:

To open the Message center, first, make sure that you have selected the Try the new admin center toggle on the admin center Home page, and then go to Health > Message center to check the post (MC 207443).

We will continue to monitor our Microsoft 365 services on an ongoing basis and share any further updates here.

Meanwhile, only the Office 365 Education license is affected by this change, if you are working with a different license but still have the same issue, or there is any other issue when using Teams or edit document online due to this change, we suggest you post a new thread on our community and we will keep working for you.

We highly appreciate your understanding. Please do take care during this specific period.

Best Regards

Higgins

    Hi Pam Carrillo,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue, and we will try our best to help you.

According to your description, I did a test on my side, if I have the edit permission to the word document, no matter where I opened it, I can edit properly.

You can select a file; either from your files list that's located on the left side of the app, the files tab at the top of a chat or channel, or one attached to a message. By default, the file will open in edit mode inside Teams and you can start making changes right away.

Please make sure that you have the edit permission first, you can open the Word file on the web or in its desktop app, right-click the file or select More options … on the right side of the app to chcek if you have edit permission.

If you can't only edit the document in Teams, to narrow down this issue, please provide the following information when you have time:

    1. Have you encountered an error message when you open the document in Teams? If so, please provide a screenshot of this error message.

2.If this issue happens to a specific file? If so, you can try to reupload it to see if it works.

3.If only the specific user could not open the document?

4.Can you open and edit Excel or PowerPoint file normally?

Please have a try and share the result with us.

    Best Regards,

    Higgins

This answer doesn't solve the issue. The Toolbars of the Word editing application in the Teams have vanished. Even editing function has dead. I uninstalled Teams, rebooted the PC, deleted every Teams file and folders and reinstalled the application. Still the Toolbars didn't come back. Please look at this end to resolve this issue. Excel and Powerpoints in Teams are still working fine.

Excel an PowerPoint is OK. Its only Word documents. You can edit in dekstop app or web app but Teams client will not let you edit it. Teams in browser is OK. This issue is also reported thru the Office 365 admin by our organisation.
