Error message when opening word doc: "Not Implemented" (Word for Windows)

Hi,

When I try to access a word doc from the folder, after clicking on it an error appears that only says "Not Implemented".

I have restarted and updated my computer and used the repair function for Microsoft word, but to no avail. I am fortunately able to access the document by first opening word then opening the document that way, but I would like to simply find the file I am looking for and open it that way.

    All, I have the same issue but I know from experience that my problem is related to TeamViewer.  TeamViewer is a remote access application which I have to run from time to time to connect to remote client computers.  (www.teamviewer.com).

    Without fail, if I run Teamviewer, i can no longer double-click to open most microsoft office files that have .***x extensions  (docx, xlsx, etc) without getting the "Not Implemented" error.

    I can still open these files by opening the application (ie, MS Word) and then use the File -> Open within the application to open the file.

    If I reboot the computer, the problem goes away until then next time I run teamviewer.  For the record, we use Teamviewer version 11.

    If this helps anyone narrow down what the root problem is, I, and a lot of others, would be grateful!

    I have the same issue, just started a few days ago, as others have described:

    • Receive a "Not Implemented" error when attempting to open an Office file
    • Right clicking and selecting "Open with" the proper Office application for the file type and the file will open
    • Opening Word (or the appropriate Office app) and select the file and the file will open
    • Non-Office files (.pdf, .wav, .jpg) open with a double-click fine, no problem
    • Rebooting fixes the issue, but only temporarily

    I have Office 2016 on a Windows 10 machine.  The only thing I have tried is the Office "repair" function and I noticed no change.

    Since several others have reported exactly the same issue, it must be an Office or Windows change that is causing the issue, not something I've done.  (I do not have TeamViewer.)

    I'll keep monitoring for a fix!

    Like others I get this problem too.  All the symptoms described are ones that I get.  After a period working on my laptop, I double click an office file only to get the 'not implemented' error.  Opening the file from within the office application or right clicking and going to 'open with' works.  This is very frustrating error though there are workarounds.  I did contact Microsoft about this and the engineer took remote control of my system but could not find a way of fixing this error.

    It has clearly been around for a while now and is also a widespread problem.  Is there any word from MS themselves on whether they are aware and trying to fix this issue.

    I have not tried any of the suggested fixes yet as other contributors suggest that these are not effective. 

    I'll keep monitoring for a fix too.
