Error message when opening word doc: "Not Implemented" (Word for Windows)

Hi,

When I try to access a word doc from the folder, after clicking on it an error appears that only says "Not Implemented".

I have restarted and updated my computer and used the repair function for Microsoft word, but to no avail. I am fortunately able to access the document by first opening word then opening the document that way, but I would like to simply find the file I am looking for and open it that way.

    I believe it has something to do with Microsoft labeling different files as being held on their cloud drive,  

    OneDrive or in "regular" on-pc storage  I have seen instances and methods by which in interfering with storage of documents they wind up on OneDrive inadvertently. 

    I have not found any notice of this in any Microsoft documents. If you will however look at your

    files ID in Explorer you will find different identifying Icons for each file type.  

    I am probably in Microsoft's view a luddite, curmudgeon or interferer in their desire to conquer the

    universe but I would prefer they allow me to file files the way I would like to. I do like the backup function however.

    I came to this forum for the same issue.  and I would answer two things.  I find it doesn't happen if the file is closed (I need to watch to see if this true 100% of the time).  

    The second answer is that I was so fed up with the whole situation (I had also lost documents due to my set up leading to me losing files from my desktop) that I called Microsoft, earlier this week.  One Drive is apparently tricky, and requires some study if you want to avoid these problems.  The documents I "lost" were being backed up in the cloud, but not being saved in my desktop file, and the rep had to adjust my setting to allow documents to be saved on the desktop and cloud at the same time.  I couldn't follow everything she was saying, but she provided these two links to learn more about One Drive.  Should be helpful to everyone here.

    I had/have the same issue. It seems OneDrive does not sync the documents very quickly. And it tries to save to OneDrive when you only want to save it to "this PC". In my case, I was trying to upload a particular document to a website. Every time I tried to open the document from my "documents" folder, I would get the "file not implemented" error message. So, when I had "my documents" opened, I found the file that had not been implemented that I am trying to upload. I right-clicked on the document. from the menu that pops up, I went to "send to". From there, I chose to send the document to "documents". I know, sounds ridiculous- the file is already trying to save in the "documents" folder. However, after I did this, it saved a copy immediately, and I was able to immediately upload it. Hope this helps at least temporarily. I have no idea how to fix it otherwise. I've tried pausing OneDrive syncing temporarily hoping I could just retrieve it from my computer- that didn't work. I also save these documents on "this PC" as well, so I am not sure why it feels the need to try and save it on my OneDrive when that is not what I actually saved it to.  Sounds like an issue a lot of people are having this issue. It would be super cool if Microsoft gave us a good answer.
