Error message when opening word doc: "Not Implemented" (Word for Windows)

Hi,

When I try to access a word doc from the folder, after clicking on it an error appears that only says "Not Implemented".

I have restarted and updated my computer and used the repair function for Microsoft word, but to no avail. I am fortunately able to access the document by first opening word then opening the document that way, but I would like to simply find the file I am looking for and open it that way.

    Thank you for this useful advice.  In my rush to retrieve documents, my brain forgot the "Show More" tab at the bottom of "Recent" Word documents.  I was trying to access them directly from my Document files.  I have downloaded the patch again and the system seems to be working without any glitches.  Thanks again!

    It is NOT document related, it is something to do with the shell handler for Microsoft365 documents.

    I think you misunderstood the setting.

    I was talking about the OneDrive setting of keeping a copy of the document on the computer. That one is found by right-clicking on the document folder in OneDrive. I have to check it every so often and it keeps getting changed, and I know my wife doesn't change it

    Go to FIle>Options>Save and check the box for Save to Computer by default and then set the Default local file location.

    I have never had that setting changed by an update,

    In my opinion, it is ALWAYS best to open document by using the Open facility in the application and do that has no effect on the length of the day.

    This is happening with multiple documents, but when my wife restarts, those same documents will work for a time, then they may/may not fail down the road. Documents that have worked for years, will all of a sudden not open with a double click, and you have to go through opening the program, then the open command which makes for long days.

    It is intermittent, and it affects different documents at different times.

    It feels like the cursor jumping around the issue. it doesn't happen all the time, but it happens and hard to recreate.

    this has been happening to my wife for a year or more, and she just puts up with it for now.

    The only common thing that I have noticed in this thread, is that the document folder is in the One Drive folder. I have set my wife up to have the documents stay on the computer and use the cloud as a backup Of course after a couple of Windows updates, that setting has been changed by Microsoft (Which pisses me off every time I have to reset that damn setting)

    So I doubt looking at a document will tell you anything. But I guess anything is possible, but that will not explain why it works sometimes, then doesn't work, then works again after a restart.
