Error message when opening word doc: "Not Implemented" (Word for Windows)

Hi,

When I try to access a word doc from the folder, after clicking on it an error appears that only says "Not Implemented".

I have restarted and updated my computer and used the repair function for Microsoft word, but to no avail. I am fortunately able to access the document by first opening word then opening the document that way, but I would like to simply find the file I am looking for and open it that way.

    Just wanted to confirm that NJ1329's temporary fix of right clicking restart for File Explorer in Task Manager worked for me too.

    Frustrating the issue keeps coming back...we in the community have identified enough work-arounds, it would be nice if MS could identify a permanent fix!

    Read through the entire thread, no real solution.  MS, is there a fix for this "not implemented" error??

    Only if I double-click a Word (or Excel) document that is in a folder.

    If I start Word or Excel first, there is no message.

    I specify that there is absolutely no problem with other type of documents (pdf, jpg, ...)

    Must I repair "Microsoft Office Desktop Apps" ?

    Which version of Office have you installed and which operating system are you running?

    Same problem for me, since seven days or so (since last windows update ?).

    Also with Excel.

    I have Office 2016 on Windows 10.

    Note: no problem ever with documents on desktop itself !

    If the quick repair does not fix the problem, try an online repair instead. Before you begin, make sure that you can access your account at https://account.microsoft.com and that your version of Office is associated with that account.
