PowerPoint 2016 exported mp4 video "jerks" on some slide transitions

I am using PowerPoint 2016 - Windows 7. When I export to an mp4 video, I notice that at some slide transitions the video "jerks" (quickly flashes back and forth from previous slide). I am at a total loss as to why. I'm hoping this is something I am doing wrong and someone can help figure out how to prevent this from happening.

where it jerks: 55 seconds, 1:45, and 2:36

The same behavior occurs in original mp4 file exported from ppt. If you download the mp4 file and run in Windows Media Player you will see the glitches at the time points. For some reason, when I just run the mp4 in a browser, the jerks do not show up, I guess are "smoothed over" by whatever video player the browser is using.

You will notice there is kind of a pattern. Approximately 50 seconds between the glitches. I have noticed a more or less similar pattern, approximately one minute between the glitches, in some other tests I have done.

I also see this happen when I remove the slide timings and set the mp4 video export to advance slides every 5 seconds. In that case, the jerks happen exactly at 1 minute and 2 minutes.

The transition "jerk" never happens when I run a slideshow from within PPT. Only happens in exported mp4 video.

Any help appreciated. Please let me know if additional information needed.

If a bug in ppt, any suggested workaround?

I too have this issue. The exported MP4 from O365 PP 2016 is experiencing the same "glitch" on transitions. After the transition completes, the previous slide pops up, sometimes the entire slide, sometimes only parts of it.

I've been using PP for this purpose for many years and never had this issue, even with Win 10 x64 and O365 2016 until recently. I'm suspecting it has something to do with one or more of the updates pushed out by Microsoft. (remember the debacle where the Win 10 update 1809 would delete your user profiles if you didn't store them in a "traditional" location?)

Anyway, in October this was working fine for me (we are a corporate entity that updates much slower than public users).

I've had to resort to two rounds of encoding making the process more lengthy.

Length of video is irrelevant unless of course it's shorter than the 55 seconds (yes mine also initially happens at 55 seconds go figure)

I am a software engineer and I can tell you that this is most definitely an encoding problem. It is NOT a player problem ... I suspect that the encoding is screwed up and some players more readily ignore them. But what do I know, I only design and write software for a living.

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting this to the Community Forum. I hope you're doing good today despite having an issue with the slide transitions in your PowerPoint app. Let's try to get to the bottom of this concern. 

    I want to isolate the issue, can you create a smaller presentation and export it to MP4. This way, we will know if the quantity of the file is causing the issue. I would also recommend the following Microsoft articles to be sure that the app is not causing the concern. 

    1. Install Office updates
    2. Repair an Office application
    3. Uninstall Office from a PC
    4. Download and install or reinstall Office 365 or Office 2019 on a PC or Mac

    After these procedures, access PowerPoint and check if you will encounter the same issue. 

    We'll wait for your response.

    I appreciate your trying to respond. But I'm sorry, that is not a reasonable response. 

    I write and test software. If someone is really serious about "getting to the bottom of the concern", the first priority is to see if the problem is reproducible. I sent the ppt file and the resulting mp4. When someone else creates the mp4, do they see the same problem?

    The idea that the "quantity of the file" is causing the problem is pure speculation, especially since the file is not very large, and does not seem very likely to anybody with a knowledge of how software works. Instead of speculating and taking shots in the dark, could someone take the obvious first step to try replicating the problem?

    It would take much less time and trouble for someone to try replicating, vs me repairing or reinstalling Office. However, I do admit that reinstalling is one option for me to try.

    I am not a Microsoft employee, so it is not my job to make further test files. I have submitted a ppt file showing the problem, taking my time, and pointed out the exact spots where the glitch occurs. If that is not good enough, then nothing is.

    I hope I can get a more reasonable response, starting with someone trying to replicate the problem.

    You are totally not helpful. 

    Again, the idea that the "quantity of the file" is causing the problem is pure speculation, and does not make any sense. That bizarre idea alone indicates you are not up to the task of helping.

    Your asking me to make a shorter file is just a burden on me. The file shows the glitch and is not that large. And even a shorter file may be deemed by you to have too much "quantity" and be rejected.

    I am not a Microsoft employee, so it is not my job to make further test files. I have carefully submitted a pptx file showing the problem, taking my time, and pointed out the exact spots where the glitch occurs. Someone can shorten the file in different ways by deleting slides. I have already done more than enough, am not going to work for free to debug PowerPoint.

    Are you a Microsoft employee, yes or no? If not, how to I bring this to the attention of someone who is?

    Previously, you were asking me to reinstall or repair PowerPoint. Now, I hear no more about that. Could you please download the file, export to mp4, and see if the same problem occurs? It is trivial to do.

    Now I am asked to go through an additional step, using OneDrive, but there is no reason this would help, as you already have the file.

    Finally, you have many grammar errors. "Due restrictions" :( "check if you will encounter" :( "quantity of the file" :( These are big red flags.

    I have just seen the same behavior in another powerpoint file. This is a real problem for me.

    I respectfully request that you hand this off to someone else, hopefully someone better (I'm sorry). I request that someone else please look at this issue, starting with simply downloading the pptx file, exporting to mp4, and see if the "jerks" occur.
