Microsoft Office Click-to-Run (SxS) High CPU

I am using Office Home & Student 2019 with Windows 10 Home. The June update was recently completed to Version 2005 Build 12827.20268.

After installing this update I noticed that Microsoft Office Click-to-Run (SxS) showed continuous 24% CPU utilization in the Task Manager. Power usage was shown as very high. This did not occur prior to the update. I have metered connection set in the network settings and discovered that the problem goes away if I turn off metered connection and restart the computer.

Does this sound like a bug in the latest update? I have Office 2013 on another computer and there is no problem on that system with metered connection set. I'd be interested if others have seen this problem or have any suggestions.

Hi KenBell6 & Everybody else,

Just got latest update for my version of Office (Office 2016 ProPlus Retail - 32bit).  Found it on Current Preview Channel.  Downloaded it and rebooted my PC and CPU Usage is back to what it used to be.

Don't know if it's a permanent fix, hope it is, but it seems to be working fine so far, after 3 reboots (just to play it safe).  I have several Office apps open, and as you can see above it looks pretty good.  Good luck everyone, let me know if it worked for you.

    Hi Mohamed,

I noticed you and CLN2 had the same problem all of us have been experiencing with High CPU usage.  I also encountered the problem after updating Office 2016 to Version 2005 (Build12827.20336).  I tried rolling Office back to Version 2003(Build12624.20466), but than didn't help so I did a repair installation of Windows 10, and that fixed my problem for several days, CPU usage was back down to 2% to 3% on Click-to-Run (C2R) with  Word, Access and Outlook opened, normally that would have been about 40% usage.  But everything went back to Hi usage again, MY FAULT, I found a BIOS update for my motherboard, which had been released over 7 months ago, so I decided to Update my BIOS.  After that, CPU usage on C2R was running Very High, again.  Tried rolling back to previous BIOS, but that didn't help.  I think tonight I'm going to try what Vladimir did to get usage back to normal and roll Office back to version 2002.  Hopefully we hear from Microsoft soon about an Office Update to resolve this issue.

I just updated to Version 12827.20336 and unfortunately it did not fix the problem.

It appears to only address a list of security updates.

same here, this version doesn't help

Thanks for sharing your success. Unfortunately, that fix does not work for me.

I found just one file in the OfficeFileCache folder and deleted it. The file was CentralTable.accdb with a size of 524 KB. I set metered connection and rebooted. The high CPU activity returned. No files were replaced by Office in the OfficeFileCache folder. I then restored the deleted file from the Recycle bin.
