Microsoft Office Click-to-Run (SxS) High CPU

I am using Office Home & Student 2019 with Windows 10 Home. The June update was recently completed to Version 2005 Build 12827.20268.

After installing this update I noticed that Microsoft Office Click-to-Run (SxS) showed continuous 24% CPU utilization in the Task Manager. Power usage was shown as very high. This did not occur prior to the update. I have metered connection set in the network settings and discovered that the problem goes away if I turn off metered connection and restart the computer.

Does this sound like a bug in the latest update? I have Office 2013 on another computer and there is no problem on that system with metered connection set. I'd be interested if others have seen this problem or have any suggestions.

Hi KenBell6 & Everybody else,

Just got latest update for my version of Office (Office 2016 ProPlus Retail - 32bit).  Found it on Current Preview Channel.  Downloaded it and rebooted my PC and CPU Usage is back to what it used to be.

Don't know if it's a permanent fix, hope it is, but it seems to be working fine so far, after 3 reboots (just to play it safe).  I have several Office apps open, and as you can see above it looks pretty good.  Good luck everyone, let me know if it worked for you.

    I see the release in preview, although this problem is not mentioned among the fixed ones, or perhaps I can't read the log )

    I had the same error (just started this morning) with that your mentioned build version. I clicked the "Update now" in Outlook as it said that there were an update available. That worked - it spawned some more C2R processes and updated. Now I'm on 2006 13001.20144 and CPU usage has dropped again. Don't know if my issue has anything to do with what you're seeing, but 2006 might be the fix.

    I'm on "Current Channel (preview)"-channel.

    Don't think that's it, I'm running Windows 10 Pro, Version 2004, OS Build 19041.329.  But it seems like something in Windows 10 triggers the C2R problem.  Like I said earlier, I got it to work fine after I rolled back Office to Version 2004 and then did a Repair install of Windows 10, it worked e for several days until I decided to update my BIOS.  After the update I was back to square one, and roll back to previous Bios didn't fix the problem.

    Maybe we'll hear something from MS soon?

    This problem is proving to be quite complicated, and may only be affecting a percentage of users.

    I wonder if the version of Windows 10 in use is a factor. I'm using Windows 10 Home, Version 1909, OS Build 18363.836. The computer has an MSI motherboard with UEFI boot.

    Yesterday I ran Excel, Word, and PowerPoint all at the same time and CPU Utilization was 97%.
