Microsoft Office Click-to-Run (SxS) High CPU

I am using Office Home & Student 2019 with Windows 10 Home. The June update was recently completed to Version 2005 Build 12827.20268.

After installing this update I noticed that Microsoft Office Click-to-Run (SxS) showed continuous 24% CPU utilization in the Task Manager. Power usage was shown as very high. This did not occur prior to the update. I have metered connection set in the network settings and discovered that the problem goes away if I turn off metered connection and restart the computer.

Does this sound like a bug in the latest update? I have Office 2013 on another computer and there is no problem on that system with metered connection set. I'd be interested if others have seen this problem or have any suggestions.

Hi KenBell6 & Everybody else,

Just got latest update for my version of Office (Office 2016 ProPlus Retail - 32bit).  Found it on Current Preview Channel.  Downloaded it and rebooted my PC and CPU Usage is back to what it used to be.

Don't know if it's a permanent fix, hope it is, but it seems to be working fine so far, after 3 reboots (just to play it safe).  I have several Office apps open, and as you can see above it looks pretty good.  Good luck everyone, let me know if it worked for you.

    I also have the same issue, can't turn off metered connection as for half the day it is limited volume and MS is incompetent enough to not include a more customizable solution.

    I guess I'll have to put office in a VM to control it.

    Same issue, guys. Windows 10. Metered connection.

    Been skipping this update for a while, then the annoying line in all apps finally got me updating to 2005.

    All Office apps and Skype for Business started eating CPU, laptop screamed like a vacuum cleaner.

    Removed all signs of Office and reinstalled it again today, then updated to the latest version - didn't help.

    Finally - turning off the "metered" flag on my connection and then rebooting - helped.

    At last I can run Office apps with my ears open.

    Thanks for the advice.

    And good luck in a further struggle to those who can't follow this.

    Microsoft, hello? Are you gonna fix this after all?

    I'm in same boat as Vladimir.  It works, but I have to keep metered service turned on or risk going over my data limit.  If I could get Microsoft to quit downloading Windows 10 updates automatically, or during a specific time, 02:00 to 08:00, I could turn metered service off.  I could specify a particular time to download updates before Windows 10, but that's not an option now.
