OneNote for Windows 10 freezes entire computer when drawing

I'm a student that uses OneNote for Windows 10 with my digital pen to write class notes/study and I've recently noticed that the entire computer would freeze after some use. Here are some notes regarding my situation:

  • This issue happens only when I am drawing with my digital pen.
  • Ive never encountered this issue when using OneNote by itself- it only happens when I am using it to draw while watching a Youtube video or if I use it during a conference call (I have a dual-monitor setup)
  • When it freezes, I am unable to Ctrl + Alt + Delete to reach task manager. I need to manually shut the computer down by holding down the power button.
  • If I was watching a Youtube Video or calling someone and my computer freezes, the audio will continue to run and the person on the other side will be able to hear me until about 2 minutes later when that goes away too.
  • This problem doesn't exist in OneNote 2016.
  • The computer freezes about 15 minutes into working on it.
  • I don't know if this helps, but I have a Lenovo Flex 14 (AMD) and use it with the Lenovo Active Pen 2.

    Hi all,

    I'm also having this issue. But not only at onenote, but at all MSOffice products. I notice that the cursor was blinking very fast and so I tried to click on the button "draw by touch" (I don't know if it is this name in the english version) and the instability stopped. But, whenever I alters to the mouse use or changes some other drawing button, the instability returns. This is a workaround, but I really think Microsoft should give a closer look to this issue. Very important these days.

    By the way, I use it on a Samsung Style Pro also with two monitors.

    Hello, 

    I have been having the same issue as everyone above. I have been using my One Note for Windows 10 for some time now ( I had a Microsoft Surface Go tablet before this for about a year) and I never encountered this issue. However, I have been using my Lenovo IdealPad Flex 5 for about a month and it recently (as of today) started freezing while I write with the pen on my one note. It won't recognize my cursor or the pen at all, and it won't even let me switch back from tablet mode to computer mode. Please fix this issue! It's been really frustrating, especially since my computer is brand new.

    Yes, same problem with intel graphics card. Everything's good with OneNote 2016, only OneNote for Windows 10 hangs, freezes.

    I am also experiencing OneNote for windows 10 to freeze when attempting to use pen. I am currently using a Surface Book 2 and surface pen. Desktop version of OneNote 2016 allows me to use pen without freezing.
