OneNote for Windows 10 freezes entire computer when drawing

I'm a student that uses OneNote for Windows 10 with my digital pen to write class notes/study and I've recently noticed that the entire computer would freeze after some use. Here are some notes regarding my situation:

• This issue happens only when I am drawing with my digital pen.
• Ive never encountered this issue when using OneNote by itself- it only happens when I am using it to draw while watching a Youtube video or if I use it during a conference call (I have a dual-monitor setup)
• When it freezes, I am unable to Ctrl + Alt + Delete to reach task manager. I need to manually shut the computer down by holding down the power button.
• If I was watching a Youtube Video or calling someone and my computer freezes, the audio will continue to run and the person on the other side will be able to hear me until about 2 minutes later when that goes away too.
• This problem doesn't exist in OneNote 2016.
• The computer freezes about 15 minutes into working on it.
• I don't know if this helps, but I have a Lenovo Flex 14 (AMD) and use it with the Lenovo Active Pen 2.

Even i have the same issue. Laptop freezes while using microsoft whiteboard and onenote for windows 10. The audio runs in the background and after freezing it starts making a beeping sound and then i have to do a hard reset. Mine is a AMD laptop with ryzen 5 4600h and 8gb ram. I really want to use microsoft whiteboard because i like the functionality it provides. This thread has been open for an year now and still microsoft hasnt provided with any solution to this.

I have the exact same problem too! Whole computer just freezes up after about 10-15 minutes of using Whiteboard/Onenote for Windows 10 with my Wacom tablet. Only way to fix it is a hard reboot. Interestingly, doesn't happen with Onenote 2016 or any of my drawing programs (Clip Studio Paint). I also have an AMD Lenovo... the Ideapad 720s with Ryzen 5. Really hope they fix this soon as I really enjoy using Onenote and with online school this is my main method of notetaking/studying and I can't afford a new laptop right now.

Same issue here. my laptop is HP envy 360, cpu is ryzen 4700u.

Maintaining not full screen and Changing graphic setting solutions didn't work to me.

I think it may be compatibility issue between AMD processor and one note app.

I have the same issue but I don't use a pen. I have an Asus Zenbook 14 with AMD Ryzen 4700 processor. I was in a call with my friend on discord (and then shifted to zoom) whilst I was explaining something on OneNote for Windows 10.  Something like 15 mins in my laptop freezes. I could hear my friend on the other side just fine, but my laptop wasn't responding at all. I have a pretty good laptop I'd say with 16 GB RAM and 512GB storage. I restarted the laptop and tried again. However, the same problem arose again. I realized that my laptop hanged whenever I was drawing on the document using my pointer and a mouse. I hope I can get a resolution for this as I would like to use it to create my notes for my classes. Thank you.

I go through post carefully. per your description, it seems that the freeze issue is related to incompatibly between OneNote for Win10 and the pen. Here are some suggestion:

1. Make sure the pen driver is up to date. You may download the latest version of Driver from website of the manufacturer.
2. Make sure you have the latest version of OneNote for win10 installed. OneNote updates comes with Windows updates. you may follow the article to update your windows: Update Windows 10
3. After installing the pen on your laptop, please restart Pc to make sure the driver is installed well.
4. Reset and repair OneNote for windows 10. In windows settings>Apps>Find OneNote for Win10>Advanced options, you can find Reset and Repair options here.
