macros disappearing - Word 2019 for Mac

Thanks, Cliff.  I did what you said with Visuals Basic Editor before your posting on it, and it didn't work.  Your file path instructions are baffling to me.  I'm not a techie.  I've also let the Word people know about this problem on two or three occasions since October of last year, and they've done nothing about it. Another responder in the community, Jim Gordon, said a fixed version exists but it's only available if I buy 365 and join a group called the Insider Fast Program, but I don't care to buy a new version, and a subscription at that, and risk wasting more time with problems, so I'll just  wait till a fixed version is publicly available.  Meanwhile, I'll use Pages and hope Word will be fixed before too long, and, by the way, it's not the 2016 version Word that I've had problems with but the 2019 one.  

Microsoft's handling of this problem has been deplorable, but Word does have a few advantages over other programs, so I'll probably continue using it until something better comes along, I hope.  Microsoft badly needs an ombudsman who can take charge of problems like this where the user has been jerked around for weeks, or months as I have.  The company is alienating people with this sort of treatment--I've talked to others who've had similar experiences--and sooner or later the chickens may come home to roost.

When inserting the macro code, please go to the files you want to open>right-click on them>Get Info to check if the files’ paths are correct.

Meanwhile, I also I suggest you use the feedback tool in the upper-right corner of your app to our related team directly so that they will be aware of the issue and address your requirement in your environment for further investigation.

The 16.29 update is now a general release build. It should turn up when you use the Help menu and choose Check for Updates to launch AutoUpdate.

Earlier today someone posted steps on how to clear the recently used file list. The reply was in regard to something other than what you're experiencing, but perhaps following these instructions will reset the recently used file lists for you.

I updated to 16.29.  The same problem occurred.  The macros stopped working after a couple of days.  

I can't be sure whether the article will help and don't plan to try it.  I don't have the technical know-how to understand it.

All I want is for my macros to work the way they used to before I got the 2019 version of Word, replacing the 2010 one after it was no longer supported.  I notified Microsoft of the problem almost a year ago.  It's infuriating that Microsoft won't fix it.

Thanks again, Cliff, but the macros work at first, but between a few minutes and a few days after I create them, they stop working.  I assume the path goes wrong but I don't understand how to correct it.  I'm not a techie and the instructions are incomprehensible to me.  

In any case it doesn't seem to me that I should have to spend time correcting paths once I've put them in correctly and the macros work.  In any case, what reason do you have to believe that the corrected path will keep working when the original correct one doesn't?

The macros worked fine on the 2010 version of Office Suite I had but which is no longer supported.  The problem only began when I bought a license for the 2019 version last October.  I've spoken to and exchanged emails with several people in the Word department at Microsoft beginning in early October of last year and spent countless hours on the problem.    

BTW another responder on this thread advised me that version 16.29 of word has corrected the problem.  I updated to it and the problem is still there.  It just took three days instead of one for the macros to stop working.

It's infuriating that almost a year has gone by and Microsoft still hasn't corrected the defective version of Word that it issued last October replacing an earlier version that worked fine.  I can only hope that this sort of corporate behavior gets the comeuppance it deserves.
