macros disappearing - Word 2019 for Mac

Hi Richard,

The 16.29 update is now a general release build. It should turn up when you use the Help menu and choose Check for Updates to launch AutoUpdate.

Earlier today someone posted steps on how to clear the recently used file list. The reply was in regard to something other than what you're experiencing, but perhaps following these instructions will reset the recently used file lists for you.

When inserting the macro code, please go to the files you want to open>right-click on them>Get Info to check if the files’ paths are correct.

Meanwhile, I also I suggest you use the feedback tool in the upper-right corner of your app to our related team directly so that they will be aware of the issue and address your requirement in your environment for further investigation.

Thanks, Cliff.  I did what you said with Visuals Basic Editor before your posting on it, and it didn't work.  Your file path instructions are baffling to me.  I'm not a techie.  I've also let the Word people know about this problem on two or three occasions since October of last year, and they've done nothing about it. Another responder in the community, Jim Gordon, said a fixed version exists but it's only available if I buy 365 and join a group called the Insider Fast Program, but I don't care to buy a new version, and a subscription at that, and risk wasting more time with problems, so I'll just  wait till a fixed version is publicly available.  Meanwhile, I'll use Pages and hope Word will be fixed before too long, and, by the way, it's not the 2016 version Word that I've had problems with but the 2019 one.  

Microsoft's handling of this problem has been deplorable, but Word does have a few advantages over other programs, so I'll probably continue using it until something better comes along, I hope.  Microsoft badly needs an ombudsman who can take charge of problems like this where the user has been jerked around for weeks, or months as I have.  The company is alienating people with this sort of treatment--I've talked to others who've had similar experiences--and sooner or later the chickens may come home to roost.

The way I provided works in our environment based on my test. It is also a macro operation as what you do for recording a macro. For recording a macro, you may need to record the operation of opening the files and get the file paths of the files. You can create macro for each file you want to open via Tools>Visual Basic Editor>clicking on Normal (this will let the macros be applied to a newly created file)> Insert>Module to create the macros for opening each file. Yes, you may need to change the file path in the code for each file. I know this may be cumbersome in your environment but it may be at least a viable way in Word 2016 for Mac. If it is an inconvenient way in your environment, I suggest you use the feedback tool in the upper-right corner of your app to our related team directly so that they will be aware of the issue and address your requirement in your environment for further investigation.

Sorry about the delay in responding to this.  I appreciate your efforts on my behalf.  Meanwhile, I got an email  from someone named Randy at the "Microsoft Answer Desk" saying they'd tried to reproduce the macros problem on ten computers and hadn't been able to and I wrote him back about what they might be doing wrong and he wrote asking for a link to the Community thread, which I just supplied him.

I've tried to change the file paths as you recommended and quickly ran into a problem.  When I open Tools>Visual Basic Editor, I can't find any button there for insert.  What I get is a page headed with the name of the document I'm working with and two options in a bar along the top, (General) and (Declarations).  Clicking on the general down arrow I get two options, General and Document.  Do I just click on one of those and enter the code you sent me on the page?

There's a dropdown menu on the left of the page with Normal at the top followed by Project (name of document) under which appears Microsoft Word Objects and References with This Document as a subheading under Word Objects.  Below that when This Document is highlighted is a list headed Properties-This Document.  I clicked on everything clickable but nowhere do I find the word Issue.

One more question about this.  Does the code you've provided me fix the problem for all my Word documents if I use the 

General option, or do I have to do the file path change for each one individually?  The latter would be cumbersome, as I have 30 or more documents I use macros to open.
