Excel crash after update to version 2001 12430.20050

Hi all,

Since version 2001 2430.20050 , Excel is no longer responding as it should :

  • Save as - Browse : no exporer window is shown
  • New file - Save : file is not saved, on exit excel the confirmation window is shown every time over when replying "yes" on the question to save the file
  • file - options - addins - manage excel addins : when clicking the button, excel crashes

Tried this on different hardware with different accounts, they all react the same.

A solution is highly apreciated.

Related Microsoft team stated that this incident i.e. OP200466 has been resolved as of Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 4:26 PM UTC. Affected users can download an update that will fully mitigate this issue. If still problem persists, you can feel free to post back to us.

    Hello friend, how did you install an older version? Here in Brazil, we have the same problem at the office, and would like to go back to the previous version!

    We go back to the previous version....and waiting for a stable update!!!!!

    At the moment Excel is unusable!

    Same problem with Swedish version.

    Solved the problem by switching to English version.

    Same problem here, first noticed by the non working Bold and Italic functions.

    Solution for us so far, is to uninstall 32bit and reinstall 64bit.

    Hoping for an easy solution, since we have 400+ machines.

    I am testing with deploying this powershell command with Intune in a test group:

    Start-Process -FilePath "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe" -ArgumentList "/update user updatepromptuser=false forceappshutdown=true displaylevel=false updatetoversion=16.0.12325.20288"

    So far it looks promising as affected users are being downgraded to the 1912 Monthly Targeted version.

    UPDATE: So far 70+ devices are downgraded by Intune with my script and the users got a working Dutch Excel again :-)
