Word for Mac 16.25 cannot remember window size

I just updated to word for Mac 16.25. Word no longer remembers the sizing of the document, and always opens to a very small window. Never happened before the update.

Hi All,

We have received several reports about the same issue recently. For others to easily identify the information here, I’m summarizing the issue as follows:

Issue description:

After updating to version 16.25 (190512), Word for Mac can no loner remember the window size closed last time. It always opens at a fixed size.

Environment:

Word for Mac version 16.25 (190512) on all three latest version of Mac OS.

Assessment:

We can reproduce the same behavior on our side. And we are reporting the issue to our related team for further investigation. Once there is any update, we will post back as soon as possible. As a workaround, you can open the Word for Mac application first and open the file from the recent list or from the File menu.

Thanks,

Ran

This is not a workaround, it still does not remember the window size. In my case on latest iOs, Word 16.25, it goes full screen and I lose the red/green sizing buttons, so when I compare two documents all day every day, I have to put my cursor in upper left on each document and resize it, then do it all over again each time I switch documents. This is beyond annoying.

the workaround you suggest does not help this problem

I may be a little unclear on the concept, @susanfw-1956. I'm working on MacOS, not iOS, because, well... even on an iPad Pro with an external keyboard, the pain level is too high.

On a desktop or laptop, though, both LibreOffice and Pages remember page size and screen location. So if I re-open document 2, it will align alongside document 1 (which re-opens in the place and at the size I left it), and I can compare to my heart's content. LibreOffice includes a function that lets you compare a newer with an older version (in table form, rather than in onscreen highlights) and accept or reject any changes.

I haven't used Google Docs in awhile, but I seem to remember being able to do a side-by-side comparison with documents that open just as they were when I closed them... but my memory may be off.

I too found this release of Word 16.25 frustrating,  but there is little we can do until Microsoft releases the next fix.  I'm sure some of the delay may be they don't want to make matters worse.

With over 250 Word documents that I support, I could not work with the window size situation.  The day after installing 16.25 I contacted Microsoft Support and the Tech had me fixed within 15 minutes.

She took control om my iMac, removed Word 16.25 along with the associated plist's and had me run First Aid.  She then installed Word 16.16.10 and all has been great since.

I receive the update message for Word each time I reboot but it's a small price to pay to return to a stable Word platform.

Any estimate on when this will be resolved?

Only Microsoft would do the installation... instead of providing a URL for the download of 16.16.10 so that the rest of the world could benefit, as well.
