I just updated to word for Mac 16.25. Word no longer remembers the sizing of the document, and always opens to a very small window. Never happened before the update.

Hi All,

We have received several reports about the same issue recently. For others to easily identify the information here, I’m summarizing the issue as follows:

Issue description:

After updating to version 16.25 (190512), Word for Mac can no loner remember the window size closed last time. It always opens at a fixed size.

Environment:

Word for Mac version 16.25 (190512) on all three latest version of Mac OS.

Assessment:

We can reproduce the same behavior on our side. And we are reporting the issue to our related team for further investigation. Once there is any update, we will post back as soon as possible. As a workaround, you can open the Word for Mac application first and open the file from the recent list or from the File menu.

Thanks,

Ran

Just downgrade to 16.24 and switch off all future "upgrades" and ignore Microsoft in the same way they ignore us.

Of even better; "downgrade" to Word 2016. That is actually an upgrade.

These are the only real-world solution.

They don't give two hoots. So neither should we.

I will repeat again: Excel has always had this problem. Instead of ever fixing it, they copied the problem to Word and Powerpoint.

    Typically Microsoft.

I also have problems opening and saving documents with Word 2019.

Word 2019 is a killer for productivity and highly frustrating.

PS: it is cute that they changed my name from "Not a Microsoftfan" to Default Username 265.

They do have time for that, apparently..............................

Agreed; in 16.26, the difference is that the window that opens when program is started is now larger than the small window it used to be under 16.25.

At this point, we all seem to be talking among ourselves. There is no evidence -- none at all -- that Microsoft is even listening in.

So I propose that, starting with this message, we all ask this simple question:

Hey, Microsoft, are you doing anything to resolve the New Document window problem being discussed in this thread?

If we get no response, we'll know that we're all being ignored and can begin to rely on LibreOffice, iWork, Google, and other comparable (and free) alternatives.

I am now using 16.27 (19061700) which loaded today under the insider program. Previously saved documents open to the same size window as saved, which has been the case for me with previous builds of 16.27. There has been no change to new documents, which continue to open to a smaller window that occupies a little more than a quarter of the screen. I need to resize the window to my preferred dimensions. This is doable, of course, but is still a pain that was not present in 16.24, where new documents opened to the window size I had somehow set as preferred. I have found no way to preserve the desired window size for new documents in 16.25 and later versions.
