Word for Mac 16.25 cannot remember window size

I just updated to word for Mac 16.25. Word no longer remembers the sizing of the document, and always opens to a very small window. Never happened before the update.

Hi All,

We have received several reports about the same issue recently. For others to easily identify the information here, I’m summarizing the issue as follows:

Issue description:

After updating to version 16.25 (190512), Word for Mac can no loner remember the window size closed last time. It always opens at a fixed size.

Environment:

Word for Mac version 16.25 (190512) on all three latest version of Mac OS.

Assessment:

We can reproduce the same behavior on our side. And we are reporting the issue to our related team for further investigation. Once there is any update, we will post back as soon as possible. As a workaround, you can open the Word for Mac application first and open the file from the recent list or from the File menu.

    I am amongst the frustrated and exasperated.  I only recently subscribed to Office 365 and now wondering if that was a huge mistake.  This is the kind of stuff that Microsoft needs to get a handle on.  Pushing out updates that include these problems is disrespectful of customers and users.  Please fix it now.

    The Mac is (and has been since the introduction of Windows) the poor stepchild in the Microsoft mansion. So the likelihood of anything being done in a reasonable amount of time is nil. It's like assuming that Cinderella will ever be invited to dine with her stepmother and stepsisters.

    The only thing that might get the attention of Redmond is a mass defection by Mac users from Office 365 and standalone purchases. And we do have options: LibreOffice, NeoOffice, Google Apps and, of course, iWork. They may not have the latest bells and whistles (which Word's menus make as hard to find as possible anyway), but all can save documents as .docx files (and open the ones you receive), and all are absolutely, positively free.

    Download one (or go online to Google Docs), try it and, if you find everything you need, kiss Mr. Nadella and his company good-bye.

    Exactly the same thing happens with me. No amount of saving a default, etc., works. Always opens new windows in a tiny size. Using Mac Word 16.25.
