I just updated to word for Mac 16.25. Word no longer remembers the sizing of the document, and always opens to a very small window. Never happened before the update.

Hi All,

We have received several reports about the same issue recently. For others to easily identify the information here, I’m summarizing the issue as follows:

Issue description:

After updating to version 16.25 (190512), Word for Mac can no loner remember the window size closed last time. It always opens at a fixed size.

Environment:

Word for Mac version 16.25 (190512) on all three latest version of Mac OS.

Assessment:

We can reproduce the same behavior on our side. And we are reporting the issue to our related team for further investigation. Once there is any update, we will post back as soon as possible. As a workaround, you can open the Word for Mac application first and open the file from the recent list or from the File menu.

Thanks,

Ran

Same problem I have discovered today. Wasted a lot of time trying to save templates and documents and such as people suggested in previous versions. No matter what I do, Word will not remember the window size that I wanted. New documents always open as a small window in the upper left hand screen.

(Who actually WANTS a window this small? Even if it were to remember the size I want, HOW IS THIS THE DEFAULT?)

I have tried this on existing documents (opening, resizing, saving, closing, quitting Word, reopening). It WILL remember my saved window size on an existing document AFTER I RESAVE, HOWEVER, all of these existing documents previously had large window sizes PRIOR to the update and now they have regressed to opening in small windows until I save them again with the correct window size, which really ticks me off.

Also, what is the main issue for me is new documents. There is no way I can find to save a default window size for a new document. I have tried saving a new document and saving the default template with the window size I prefer. no matter what i do, every new word document will open in a small useless window in the upper left hand of the screen.

So sick of updates causing more problems than they solve. Every day LibreOffice looks better and better. I may still deal with bugs but at least I don't have to pay for it.

Open Word and in the Help drop down menu select Check for Updates.

If no update is available select the Insider Update option and Fast after reading the warnings. That will give you the latest version which is effectively a beta version for testing.

16.26 has not fixed the problem!

The size of the window depends on the machine you run Word, PowerPoint or Excel.

On my 27"iMAC all programs open in a small window and do not remember position and size. On my 13" MacBook Pro Retina mid 2014 all programs fit the screen completely and on my MacBook Pro 13" 2017 with touch bar I have the same problem as on my iMac.

As a compromise solution I made a download of the update packages of Word, Excel ans Powerpoint version 16.24 from "https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-office-for-mac". Next I deleted "Microsoft Word.app", "Microsoft Excel.app", and "Microsoft PowerPoint.app" from the "program" directory. Afterwards I run the "Microsoft_Word_16.24.19041401_Updater.pkg" as well the updater.pkg for Powerpoint and Excel. All three applications run without errors, adjustable window size and position in the 16.26 environment of office 365. Of course I put the microsoft updater on "manual" as long the problem is not fixed.
