Word Dictate - keeps typing 'what'

Hi, I just started using the dictate function in Word and its great. However when I pause for too long it types 'What' and if i'm not careful i miss it and it stays in my text. I have tried several times and there is no background noise and I am not breathing heavy or saying anything? It will often type 'what' also before the dictate function times out and turns off. 

edit - it is now also typing 'hello' and 'heehee'. I think its possessed!! 

The function commands such as hyphen, open parenthesis etc do not work either. comma, full stop do. Also is there a way to lengthen the time out function as I find it too short?

Any suggestions or anyone else having this problem?

Thanks @Rohn007 for pointing this out - I have just e-mailed Emily Tran to let her know. She is the person from Microsoft working to fix this.

When we were last in contact she hadn't been able to see the 'hello' problem in action. This might be why.

I think most of us would like to continue using the dictate function - it just needs a bit of perseverance to get there, and collaboration with Microsoft to help them.

Onwards and upwards!

A fix has been deployed to 100% of Dictation users - please let us know if you still see the issue.

    I also have noticed the same issue in the last couple of weeks.  The feature was great, but now with the auto insertion of the word 'hello' it is aggravating.  This is clearly a software issue as I have tried using different microphones.  I have been telling friends and colleagues about how great the feature was for improving efficiency and now this glitch is frustrating to say the least.  I am hopeful when things settle from COVID-19 that MS can review and remedy.  I really love the feature as I find typing slow and inefficient for me and this feature helped me.  More importantly any one who is physically challenged would rely on this feature and they don't deserve to have to manage this problem when coping with other challenges that many of us don't have in our daily activities.  MS please work to solve this issue so I can start bragging on how much I like your products and services again. Thanks.

    I'm having the same issue as everyone else. Often it places 'Hello' at the start of the sentence, I wonder if it's hearing the 'bing-bong' the software makes when you click dictate and interpreting that as a word? If so, you'd think the algorithm could be programmed to ignore that. I'm using a Microsoft Surface Pro (V6) so I doubt the hardware is the issue.

    Same issue with me and Word as well. If i turn on dictation and stop speaking for a minute, it enters 'hello' into the text a few times. If I turn off dictation, when I turn it back on it enters 'hello' to the text straight away.

    Would be good to find a solution to this! It is not noise on the microphone, I have checked and the signal is clean and a quiet room.

    That's not how mine works.

    If I say stop dictation it types out 'stop dictation'

    then a few hellos for luck.
