apa 7th edition

Thanks for the links to websites that will help with APA 7th edition (some have not yet updated to 7th yet so their usefulness is limited at this time).   The question is, and has been, when will Word include APA 7th edition in the citation/reference page builder within Word (under the "reference" tab in Word?   We would like this tool to work for the new required edition.  I am a graduate student and an employee at a university and this new edition is required starting this semester.  This will be true at most universities across the country, or it will be at all later this year.  There are enough differences between the 6th and 7th editions to cause problems for many students.  The 7th Edition is available on Amazon and at other retailers now.

MS does not support APA 7, don't expect to see it for a long time.  You should get your teacher and class to lobby the APA to work with MS to create the required style files to update Word. It requires special programming, but can be done. APA has a direct interest in getting it done MUCH faster than MS does.

Buy the APA guide and follow their instructions. Use styles where possible, manually where needed

Take a look at either of the 2 DOCX sample files to use as your starting psuedo-template for APA 7. Even though there is no official bibliography support in Word yet ..  Disappointingly they do not use heading styles. But that is OK, you can copy the styles they used and apply them to the default Heading 1 and 2 styles and work from there for additional heading levels

One of the most popular guides for academic writing standards across the curriculum is scheduled for some changes. It’s been a decade since The American Psychological Association (APA) last revamped its writing manual.  For many editors, faculty, and students, this means mastering new rules in short order.

And while change can be scary, when it comes to APA, all appearances indicate that the changes will be mostly user-friendly.  The group hosts a free online preview of its introduction to the new edition, and the APA’s social media feed has also leaked some helpful details.

Based on that information, these predictions for the changes we’ll see aren’t too bold. Here’s a quick table to help you and your colleagues brace for the changes:

Formatting for 6th edition is already available in msword under the references menu. yes you do have to input for it, but without having 7th edition available in word under the references menu, you can't be sure if your references or citations conform to 7th edition. you have also to research what the changes between msword apa6th edition & 7th edition are.

The workaround is to do it manually, which is what you would have had to do with an earlier version of Word.

Unfortunately, I do not have the luxury of time.  

I have a publication due next month and my editor requires APA 7.  

If MS Word cannot do it, I will have to count it off as an MS fail and find a workaround.
