I am facing the same issue. I have tried to several ways to add a patch in "Styles" where it says Sixth Edition replacing with Seventh Edition but it does not work.

I am assuming that Microsoft has to update as early as possible because the educational institutes are moving to 7Th Edition now. The end-user (student) is facing this trouble.

What she is referring to is that the APA format currently in Microsoft Word is not up to date with APA.  The current APA edition is 7th.  Will this be included in an update, can we manually download the current APA guidelines into Microsoft Word?

Yes, APA 7, or the MS version of it will EVENTUALLY be updated into Word. In 2 or 3 years time (or longer, or shorter, we have no way of knowing).

    .

Yes, APA 7 can be downloaded into Word independently of MS, if you can find it.  I haven't seen any mention of this sort of download.

    .

Yes, you could create your own APA 7 XML rules file, if you can figure out the required XML programming language ...

    .

Bottom line, don't hold your breath waiting for Word to support current standards, APA or other.  Use a 3rd party tool to do it for you.

Of course not, the team developing Word does not put much effort as they cannot even get APA 6th edition correct. None of the bibliographic tools actually format properly and according to the rules. Of course a better option is for the Word Team to build code to allow the user to create and update styles. Editing XML is one of the exercises in patience.
