Power Point slide show keep jumping back to prior slide

New MacBookPro.

Just installed Office365.

Using PP to view slides from Multimedia Exercises for Basic Japanese Grammar.

One has to read/respond/click-to-hear-answer/click-to-go-to-next-page/next-question.

If I am idle for a random period of time, it pops back to a prior slide.

Sometimes it happens quite soon after clicking onto a new slide, so it is not a general timeout feature.

Also, the slide it pops back to changes as on proceeds further.  It breaks the basic flow logic of the presentation as to get back, you end up activating some next state you don't necessarily want to.  IE, getting back to read the question makes it think you want to see the answer, but you are not yet ready to see it.

My question is: is this a bug in the slides, or a bug in the programme?

The slides force one to open read-only, and I don't know much about PP so I don't know where to look to see if there is some time-based thing which kicks in if I am idle.

Hi All,

I'd like to share a summary for the issue here which will benefit other community members.

Symptoms:

Power Point slide show may jump automatically back to prior slide 

Environment:

  1. OS: Mojave 10.14.1 (18B75).
  2. PowerPoint version: 16.18 (Wait on a slide for about 30 seconds in full screen presentation mode, the slide will automatically skip to a previous slide)
  3. PowerPoint version: 16.19 (181109) (Some customers fix the issue by upgrading to 16.19, but the other ones still have the issue) (The 16.19 may make the issue idle time from 30 seconds to 10 minutes)
  4. The issue happens to all files
  5. The issue happens in full screen presentation mode but not in presenter view mode.
  6. The issue disappears when all the customers trying to do a screen recording.

Workaround:

Play the presentation in presenter view mode.

Assessment:

Please update the Office to the latest 16.21 version to get the fix.

Hi all,

Thank you all for providing related videos and logs. We have narrowed down the root cause, and we're working with Apple for a fix. 

In the mean time, we have added a temporary solution in the next update.

As a current workaround, if you have more than 1 graphics cards on your device, you can do the following:

    (1) Go to System Preferences

    (2) Go to Energy Saver

****(3) Uncheck Automatic graphics switching(If you do not see this option, you only have 1 graphics card)

We completely understand your frustration with this problem. We appreciate your patience.

    We have confirmed that both of you encounter this issue on the latest version of MacOS Mojave version 10.14.1 and PowerPoint for Mac version 16.18 (181014).

    @Pastr D,

    We'd appreciate it if you can provide us with your MacOS version as well as your PowerPoint for Mac version as well.

    We'd also appreciate if everyone can provide a sample file (as it doesn't seem to happen to a specific file, a sample file void of any confidential information would be helpful) and video to share. 

    You can share the video and file using any file sharing app such as OneDrive, and you can record the video using the built-in QuickTime Player:

    Just to answer your other questions...

    1. This happens with all of my power point presentations - including the brand new ones I create with the latest version of PP.
    2. This happens after about 30 seconds, but sometimes up to about a minute after I stop playing the slide.
    3. I encounter this problem with every slide show that I run from my MacBook Pro - either on the full screen mode on the computer itself or through a projector.
    4. My experience is that the slide that interrupts the show is usually the initial slide in the stack - but on Sunday I had something else going on - it appeared to be more or less blank and bluish. (Since I was trying to teach a class and they could not see the slide - I wasn't looking at it closely.

    Tell me how to make the "reproduce video" of the slide show and I will do that for you.

    Neo -

    I was surprised and intrigued to think that I might escape this problem by starting from scratch to create a new slide stack.  So I tried it.

    I created 8 slides with animations (like most slide presentations) and started it. I went into the presentation to the third slide - about halfway down the bullet points. Then I waited... and in about 30 seconds the presentation jumped to the first slide in the stack.
