Power Point slide show keep jumping back to prior slide

New MacBookPro.

Just installed Office365.

Using PP to view slides from Multimedia Exercises for Basic Japanese Grammar.

One has to read/respond/click-to-hear-answer/click-to-go-to-next-page/next-question.

If I am idle for a random period of time, it pops back to a prior slide.

Sometimes it happens quite soon after clicking onto a new slide, so it is not a general timeout feature.

Also, the slide it pops back to changes as on proceeds further.  It breaks the basic flow logic of the presentation as to get back, you end up activating some next state you don't necessarily want to.  IE, getting back to read the question makes it think you want to see the answer, but you are not yet ready to see it.

My question is: is this a bug in the slides, or a bug in the programme?

The slides force one to open read-only, and I don't know much about PP so I don't know where to look to see if there is some time-based thing which kicks in if I am idle.

Hi All,

I'd like to share a summary for the issue here which will benefit other community members.

Symptoms:

Power Point slide show may jump automatically back to prior slide 

Environment:

  1. OS: Mojave 10.14.1 (18B75).
  2. PowerPoint version: 16.18 (Wait on a slide for about 30 seconds in full screen presentation mode, the slide will automatically skip to a previous slide)
  3. PowerPoint version: 16.19 (181109) (Some customers fix the issue by upgrading to 16.19, but the other ones still have the issue) (The 16.19 may make the issue idle time from 30 seconds to 10 minutes)
  4. The issue happens to all files
  5. The issue happens in full screen presentation mode but not in presenter view mode.
  6. The issue disappears when all the customers trying to do a screen recording.

Workaround:

Play the presentation in presenter view mode.

Assessment:

Please update the Office to the latest 16.21 version to get the fix.

Hi all,

Thank you all for providing related videos and logs. We have narrowed down the root cause, and we're working with Apple for a fix. 

In the mean time, we have added a temporary solution in the next update.

As a current workaround, if you have more than 1 graphics cards on your device, you can do the following:

    (1) Go to System Preferences

    (2) Go to Energy Saver

****(3) Uncheck Automatic graphics switching(If you do not see this option, you only have 1 graphics card)

We completely understand your frustration with this problem. We appreciate your patience.

    Hi All,

    Thanks for your sharing.

    Based on my testing, I can't reproduce this issue on PowerPoint for Mac 16.17(180909),16.18 (181014),16.20 (181031) under Mojave 10.4.1.

    There are my test steps, please have a look:

    1. Open a presentation via the different version of PowerPoints mentioned above.
    2. Play presentation in full screen.
    3. Click slide into some pages(more than 1 and less than 8). 

    4. Click slide into some pages(more than 8). Then stop and wait.

    To give you a further support, I'd like to confirm related info as below:

    1. Does this issue happen to all presentations even newly created ones or only related ones?
    2. How long since you meet this issue after you stop playing slide?
    3. How often do you encounter this issue?
    4. How random does the side jump(Which slides you will jump to)?

    Besides, if you can make a reproduce video, it will be great to let us have a better understanding of your scenario. You can share with me your videos via PrivateMessage.

    I think that just saving your presentation and using a Windows computer to present it will work. That is what I do with my presentations for Sunday Sermons (because the church uses Windows computers) and it works just fine.

    Sorry that you have had so much additional stress as you prepare for your defense. I'm sure you will find a way through. (And just think how this is building character!)

    Hello, 

    I have been having similar issues. 

    When in presentation mode (presenter view), and my 2017 MacBook pro is connected to an external monitor or projector, slides will randomly disappear from the external screen. When I advance the slide or advance to the next animation the slide returns. This occurs at very random times throughout the presentation. 

    This also happens when the laptop is not connect to an external monitor and the presentation is in fullscreen mode (not presenter view). In this situation the presentation will skip to the title slide, the screen will go black, or it will skip to a completely random slide. Again, when I advance the slide/animation, it goes back to where I was in the presentation.

    I have tried removing the slide transitions and copying and pasting the slides into a new presentation. Everything is up to date (Mac and PowerPoint) and I don't seem to have the same issues on a Windows desktop.

    I'm very concerned because this presentation is for an upcoming thesis defence. I started this presentation months ago and consistency edit/update it and save it as a new file. However, since upgrading my Mac a few weeks ago (to Mojave 10.4.1) I have been going through the presentation multiple times a day and this issue happens every time and and in an inconsistent pattern (always different slides and at random times). I have never had issues like this with PowerPoint before the Mojave update. 

    I hope that this can be solved as soon as possible. Thank you in advance!
