Why does my excel window lag so much when moved around the screen? no other app windows have the problem

UPDATE...

My laptop has integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 as well as an NVIDIA Quadro P1000.   

I *disabled* the integrated graphics via "Device Manager --> Display Adapters" and restarted.  When laptop came back up it only detected one monitor from my dual monitor setup, but the lag with Outlook 2016 and Excel 2016 was resolved!   Unfortunately Nvidia control panel still couldn't detect my second monitor.  (Note: I'm also using a frustrating/buggy Thunderbolt docking station from Dell that may be confusing the issue)

Frustrated I went ahead and re-enabled integrated graphics again via "Device Manager --> Display Adapters".  My second monitor immediately became active.  Luckily the proper window drag response with Outlook/Excel persisted.

Now I just have to pray next time I reboot...

The Problem: Report Rate on your mouse is too high.  It is polling too many times before the refresh on your screen and it lags to catch up.

The Solution: Lower the polling rate to at least 500 or lower.  After selecting 500, it fixed it for me and lowering to 250 and 125 felt the same so I stayed at 500.

First check your polling rate

If you are over 500Hz, then this fix is for you.

For my Logitech G502, that means opening the software application > customize onboard profile (the moues/memory chip icon) > report rate > selecting 500 for polling rate.

• If you don't have Logitech, try to find the report rate or polling rate or reports per second for your software and lowering it to 500 or lower
• If you use Window's driver for your mouse, try installing the proper software for your mouse so you can change the report rate
• If you can't do that, try downloading mouse rate adjusting program, you can find some on Tom's Hardware and simply adjust to 250 or 500 instead of 1000

Same here, very annoying. but this does not happened to older version of excel such as 2010, only to the newest office suite.

Microsoft please release an update to the current office.

This is caused by gaming mouse, but gaming mouse is good for work too and it should not have happened.

The reason it does not happen in older versions is that MS has made fundamental change to the program code that writes the Excel application to Windows. This program code is integral to each program.  MS did that sort of change Word 2013. In Word 2013 people complained about a change in how Word drew unprinted boundary lines around the text. In 2010, the border was drawn as a single line around all of the text, a "page" border. In 2013 the border was drawn around each paragraph individually. MS replied that this was "as designed", 2013 had fixed a "bug" in 2010. We didn't agree that the way that 2010 worked was the bug, but it's MS's call.

For the most part the change is transparent, except when there are unexpected interactions. In this case high polling speed mice interfere with the Window drag event. The mouse sends a message to Windows/Excel "n times per second" (the polling speed) reporting how much it has moved to adjust the location of the mouse pointer. When you are dragging, the application has to also calculate how the application window looks in the new location.  That requires a LOT more calculations than simply repainting the mouse pointer.  The gaming mice now send too many of these messages for excel to handle smoothly. This is a change to very fundamental application code. Even if the required code change is simple, it will require extensive testing to ensure the "fix" does not cause other problems. That kind of testing takes time.

I have never owned or used a gaming mouse. I started this thread because my office apps are almost unusable because of the lag. Excel 2013 is the worst case. Excel lags even when I have a blank spreadsheet open. I have tried reducing the number of cores used to free up draw resources for Not sure if it helps at all.
