Why does my excel window lag so much when moved around the screen? no other app windows have the problem

I installed the Logitech Setpoint software, which apparently activated high-polling-rate for the nice G5 mouse I have been using for years.  This caused repositioning of MS Word window to be rubbery (very laggy).

In an earlier post, I read that USB update-rate was the issue.  (MS apparently attempts to fully recalculate the contents of the Word (or excell) window for EVERY repositioning update it receives!)

The solution (for me) was to open Logitech SetPoint, go into the mouse Game Settings tab (the tab with the symbol that looks like a Chess rook), then click on the blinking "Advanced Game Settings" button on the middle right-side of the screen.  

Near the bottom of the screen is the "Report rate (reports per second) control.

It was set to 500.

I changed it to 125 and clicked OK.

Moving the MS Word window around now works like it used to.  No visible lag.

ON a depressing note: 

Given this is the 3rd decade of the 21st century, and all machines are now REQUIRED to have Graphics Process Units (GPUs) to run windows, WHY hasn't Microsoft applications division ported this software over to execute portions on the GPU.  THEN we could reposition the window at arbitrary speed.   The applications-programming division at Microsoft seems to be lagging!

Quickest fix that worked for me:

-Go to Windows Performance Options and uncheck the "Show Window Contents While Dragging" box

-Hit "Apply" and drag the excel window around. It will no longer lag.

-Go back to the performance options and select the "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer" (it'll re-check the box that we just unchecked but that's ok)

-Hit Apply

-BOOM. The Excel window now can move around without the lag.

Not sure if this is a bug or what but that's what fixed it for me.

Maybe it has to do with the mouse and the USB polling frequency.

Did this ever get solved for you? I have had the same issues, mostly with Excel. Something that SEEMS to have helped this morning is a display setting change. Time will tell if it's my imagination / temporary or a real fix:

• Right-click on the desktop and select Display Settings.
• Scroll down and click on Graphics settings
• There's now a dialogue that offers the ability to change graphics settings by App.
• In the drop-down box I selected Universal app, then a second drop-down appears, ion which I selected Office and clicked Add.
• Office now appears below as an icon. Click the icon and select Options.
• From the three options of System Default, Power Saving and High Performance, I selected High Performance and clicked Save.
• You may need to exit all Office apps before the new setting takes effect. I simply did a full restart of the PC to make sure of it (1TB SSD = quick restart :-) )

The Excel windows still have a small amount of lag, but not as bad as before.

I would be interesting to know if this helps anybody else.

Here is something I adjust on every Windows install I have performed since Windows 7.  I adjust the Windows Display Performance settings as shown below.  Once completed, I don't have lag issues with moving windows around anymore. The window lag issue has been a bug in Windows since Vista. 

Here you go - Make sure to Un-check the options I highlighted below in the image.

I have exactly the same problem, and similar in that no mouse drivers.

I find Excell is the only app that jumps to use 100% of my processing, i'e the cause of the lag.

I don't think it's the mouse, as when I switch to another app, everything acts normally..., until I return back to excel. A cup of tea usual is the best fix.
