MS 2010 apps disabled on XP OS

I have two computers running on XP and beginning on 14 Oct 18, they have both refused to open MS Word 2010.  They both give the same set of messages as follows:

“WINWORD.EXE -Entry Point Not Found

X  The procedure entry point GetDataFormatEx could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL.32.DLL.”

When I press the “OK” command, I get the following message:

“Error”

“The operation system is not presently configured to run this application”

When I press the “OK” command, the error message leaves and nothing else happens.

Because it has occurred on both computers, I assume it is a system issue and not related to the individual computer.

Can you please explain to me what the problem is and what actions I might take to correct the problem and continue to use MS Word 2010 on these computers?

My assumption that the problem was caused by Microsoft and not related to the individual computer was correct.

Updates were continuing to be installed on my “Office Home and Student” without my knowledge and the latest update was dated the very day my programs were disabled.

Thanks to the assistance of everyone who responded to my Forum request, and especially: Hojjat Bohlooli who supplied the instructions for removing the offending update, both my XP computers are now up and running my Office 2010 programs properly.

As a conclusion to this matter, and to assist others who have been damaged by this problem, here is the remedial process as provided by Hojjat Bohlooli:

Uninstall recently installed update of office 2010 named KB4461522.  This update breaks compatibility of office 2010 on windows XP.

·        Open 'Add or Remove programs' from Control Panel

·        Select the “show updates” on the top of window

·        Find Update, KB4461522 dated 14 Nov 18 for Office 2010 in the list and remove it.

Reboot computer

    There are so far 5 known "killer" updates, which you should try to find and remove:

    Here a summary of the situation as far as I know…

    Office 2010 in XP” killers” :-

    KB4461522 ( no longer available  )

    KB4461614 (  available , but not been offered for some time  )

    KB4462157 ( available , but not been offered for some time. ( Originally this was introduced to solve the problem. It never did. Quite the opposite, it causes the problem if you install it, just as all the other “killers do !!.    ) )

    KB4462174 (  available,  and until recently, was still offered )

    KB4462223 : The latest, available, and being currently offered

    See in history where KB 4461522 was installed, but can not find in the Change or Remove Programs. No way to search this either. I tried searching dirve C, but nothing there either.

    My Office H & S is working properly and I have deleted the following updates:  KB4461522, 1614, 2174, 2157, and 2223.

    Yes, thanks for all replies. So far when I had to reinstall all of Office 2010 it took me a while, and NO KB upgrades where there. Still I can't open any Office program, neither WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK etc.

    It's one thing to have free updates for XP, but I think if MS would charge us for that, it would be worthwhile. I still have too many programs that doesn't work on Win 7. Yes, most of them are from vendors who once where small and got bought up by the big guys. So those versions of programs still works. I have other computers that I'll use for other things, among then a MacBook Pro. And a Win 7 laptop. And they are at different locations, and none of them at my actual work. 

    I don't think it would be that expensive to be paying for such a small fix. Now, the new emperor of Japan has been installed. New calendar. 

    And yes, this forum is way unwieldy and cumbersome to navigate through. Whenever I get a mail that someone responded, I klick the reply button in the mail, and have to log on, and ends up in the top root of the site, having to manually find my way down to the topic at hand. 

    Beats me.

    BTW; if it hasn't been clear: Still not working any Word, Excel files on XP regardless of all KB updates removed.
